LGBTQI atheists, nontheists, and friends

Nontheist lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex people & friends.

Forum is now open for comments only, due to limited moderation.

The original creator has been absent 8 years.  She may no longer identify as Lesbian or as Atheist, but could still experience discrimination due to being listed as creator of this group.  This group does come up on internet search with this person, and her photo photo, as group creator.  We live in era when discrimination can be expected to increase on many fronts.

I moderated since that time. On several occasions, I requested that another member moderate, but was unable to find a volunteer who would actively moderate content.

Please be aware, posts left active on this group, especially discussion forum, can be hazardous to members, even ones who have been gone for many years.  In most states and countries, there is no protection for LGBT people regarding employment, housing, or employment.  The same is true regarding atheists.  Some members may not even be aware of discrimination, and may not be aware that their old posts and images are still there to come back and haunt them.  Posts and the membership list are visible on internet searches.

There has been at least one case of a member of Atheist Nexus experiencing employment discrimination due to their membership.

Another member of Atheist Nexus was murdered in India, in 2011 (Ajita Kamal).  As far as I can tell, the perpetrator and motive were never found, but Kamal was a known atheist, and known atheists are frequently targeted for brutal killings in South Asia.

Any member who posts, without having their own photo or name on their screen name and avatar, is expressing implied agreement, by default, about the importance of privacy, even on the internet.

A controversial group needs an active moderator, who will look out for the needs and safety of the members, as much as possible in such a forum.

As has recently been done, posts on Atheist Nexus are subject to screenshots.  They are also be subject to internet search.

I recommend that interested members start a new LGBT group, so that there is no issue with long absent group creator and no longer having a moderator.  Until that time, this group is open for a rolling comment wall.  I am not able to expire comments without closing the entire comment page, due to host program (Ning) limitations on moderation.

Daniel W.

That's funny, Daniel.  I never thought of it that way.  Now that Hugh Hefner is dead, we are all breathing in his atoms.  We're even closer!

Carl, that's really interesting.   You are 2 degrees of separation from Hugh Hefner.

Hugh Hefner went to the same high school as my parents and my two sisters.  He was very generous in supporting the school's newspaper and journalism classes throughout the years.  During the time my sister played flute in the band in the 1970's, Hefner paid for new marching band uniforms.

BB somewhere in the back of my mind, I think I did.  But that is like the scene at the end of the Raiders of the Lost Ark, when they put the Arc into a government warehouse, never to be found again.

I will be taking a reduced role at Atheist Nexus as of Oct 1, 2017. I will not be moderating this group after that time, and I will be re-zeroing most of my groups and comments.

That will leave this group without a moderator. Since this group was started by a member who hasn't visited Nexus for many years, it is not possible to select or designate a moderator. Instead, I will send notification to Br. Richard that the group will be without a moderator. It will then be up to him to decide how to proceed.

Since this is a popular group, I recommend that a member start up a new group for quotations, so that the members can continue adding and reading their favorite quotes.

Thanks and happy reading!

Robertson Begs ‘The Gays’ to Only Do ‘Hand and Mouth Stuff’ Until After Hurricane Season

VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA — Televangelist Pat Robertson told a podcast audience this week that he had a “special message and dire plea” for the LGBTQ community, who he referred to repeatedly as “The Gays.” Robertson said he wants the LGBTQ community to consider drastically cutting back on their sexual activity and limit it to “just hand and mouth stuff.”

“I’m just afraid that God’s patience with butt sex is wearing thin is all,” Robertson said, “and the last thing we want is to incur his wrath simply because The Gays couldn’t keep their anal sex to a respectable level, is all.”

Later, Robertson would clarify that to God no amount of anal sex acceptable.

“You might think God and Jesus don’t have enough free time to care about the personal sexual orientation of every human being,” Robertson said, “but that just shows you don’t know Jesus Christ like I know him.”

Christ, reached for comment, would tell us that Robertson is “totes cray” and doesn’t speak for all of Christendom, much less the majority of it.

"lack Protestants saw atheists as the biggest threat to physical safety"

I wonder if black perceive atheists as a threat because of their history of the church being a "pressure release valve" for slaves?

A black author wrote of taking their troubles to the "threshing field", I think was the term. I hope someone can correct my memory and remind of the author. His writings evoked a powerful feeling in me.

From what I've seen here there are many Muslims and Christians who think that love and care are the first rules, no matter who you are, and after that they'll think perhaps about whatever else their religion wants. But you never know beforehand..

>Black Protestants saw atheists as the biggest threat to physical safety

That surprised me.
