It wasn't all that long ago, either. Loving v. Virginia was decided (unanimously) in 1967.
What has always puzzled me in all these cases is WTF are the bigots afraid of? Nobody is forcing them to marry someone they don't want to. And most southerners of all shades are a mixture due to slave owners having sex with the women who had no choice in the matter.
Even in the 20th century, someone who had a single great-grandparent who had been a slave...or a free mulatto....1/16th (or less) black ....was classified as "negro" no matter how blonde and pink they were.
I have some Cherokee ancestors from way back when...that was also considered disgraceful, but not criminal.
(THANKS to the Human Genome Project for starting to straighten this out!)
Carl, the day will come when beautiful photos of same-sex marriage will be common place and won't raise any eyebrow. Can you remember when mixed-race marriage was taboo? It was awful. Some of the most beautiful children came out of such unions.
Daniel, I haven't noticed any "unrelenting tsunami of republican and christian stupid" on Atheist Nexus. We seem to make it uncomfortable here for that kind of thinking.

I've been aware of that fact for quite some time, Loren.
Or a honeymoon salad; lettuce alone.
Loren, you want a tossed salad with that?
Hey, I'll eat tacos, burritos, enchiladas and huevos rancheros!!! And don't forget the queso fundido con chorizo!!!
Seen at Philly Pride, Pittsburgh Pride, Boston Pride, Los Angeles Pride, and presumably others, this bit of clever, punny marketing:
I got one at Boston Pride on Saturday.
A commenter at Joe.My.God. writes, 'I want one that says "Combo plate!"'
Carl, those brides and grooms look positively jubilant! (And I like the grooms' choice of very informal attire in picture #5. :)
And that's a great cartoon, Ruth!
Felaine and Daniel, Unmarried Equality is worth a look: http://www.unmarried.org/
And I can't help repeating that apt typo: "at the moment, the Repub-Christian favorite is homophobe Ben Carson, but he will also be quickly forgotten for homophone Jeb Bush." In the things that matter, the Republicans all sound alike!
