Hello all,

I've been having a separate conversation with Betsy about this, but thought I'd put it on the wall as my computer decided to eat my last message, and besides it is probably worth saying here anyway.

I joined nexus, set up this group as I'd been through all the other groups that were set up at the time and there were no other similar groups set up at the time. The next day I went on my travels and haven't really checked back in since....what I'm getting at is I set up the group in a hurry!

Re-reading the group description it did read in a way that-completely unintentionally!- sounded excluding of trans people. I have had many conversations with trans friends along the theme of "we wish people would stop automatically adding a T on the end of gay groups when the two things aren't the same issue and there isn't anything for trans people there..."(obviously there are gay trans people too) so my clunky wording was an attempt not to conflate the two, rather than anything else. But it did look rubbish, thus I have changed it to something which I hope looks a bit more welcoming, but am still open to improvements if people would like to suggest anything!

Hope everyone is well,

PS Michaela (below), well, I would say it's however you define yourself, of course!

Hi Claire, I'd love to know how you define straight lol!

At which point in my transition am I what, and at what point do you say, that's my defined orientation. *grin*

As MtF, if I prefer sex with males am I queer when I start and straight when I finish? and if I prefer sex with women am I straight when I start and queer when I finish? *grin*

I have enough trouble with straight society without getting "put separately" within the family :)

I might add as a MtF transsexual woman that is primarily attracted to women, I already face strong discrimination from a section of the lesbian community that see it as some sort of devious heterosexual ploy to get into their pants! lol.

No doubt I'll probably hear from some now I've posted this :)

Love, Michaela - transitioning preoperative, lesbian transsexual woman - Oh, and I definitely think of myself as queer/gay/bent/not straight etc. etc.

*grin* please don't take this to heart - I'm not really criticising, it's just my attempt at a humorous truth lol.

I picked this one because;

1) "glbtqatheists" is too long a name and too all-inclusive. This group's like a sub-group of that one. How would you even pronounce that name?

2) "gaytheists" looks like a gay theist's group. It's a pun that only works when spoken.

3) "Gay Atheists", straight forward and easy to say.

OK, I'm just kidding. This was just the first one I saw. ;)

I wish all of the gay groups here would merge (if possible), I do not like to have to participate in three or four groups concerning the same things.

Hey all, sorry I've not checked back in- been away and I still am, just checking my email on a friend's computer- I was sure that when I checked groups when I first signed up there were no gay atheist groups...maybe I didn't see them or they've been created since? Hmm.
