Forum is now open for comments only, due to limited moderation.

The original creator has been absent 8 years.  She may no longer identify as Lesbian or as Atheist, but could still experience discrimination due to being listed as creator of this group.  This group does come up on internet search with this person, and her photo photo, as group creator.  We live in era when discrimination can be expected to increase on many fronts.

I moderated since that time. On several occasions, I requested that another member moderate, but was unable to find a volunteer who would actively moderate content.

Please be aware, posts left active on this group, especially discussion forum, can be hazardous to members, even ones who have been gone for many years.  In most states and countries, there is no protection for LGBT people regarding employment, housing, or employment.  The same is true regarding atheists.  Some members may not even be aware of discrimination, and may not be aware that their old posts and images are still there to come back and haunt them.  Posts and the membership list are visible on internet searches.

There has been at least one case of a member of Atheist Nexus experiencing employment discrimination due to their membership.

Another member of Atheist Nexus was murdered in India, in 2011 (Ajita Kamal).  As far as I can tell, the perpetrator and motive were never found, but Kamal was a known atheist, and known atheists are frequently targeted for brutal killings in South Asia.

Any member who posts, without having their own photo or name on their screen name and avatar, is expressing implied agreement, by default, about the importance of privacy, even on the internet.

A controversial group needs an active moderator, who will look out for the needs and safety of the members, as much as possible in such a forum.

As has recently been done, posts on Atheist Nexus are subject to screenshots.  They are also be subject to internet search.

I recommend that interested members start a new LGBT group, so that there is no issue with long absent group creator and no longer having a moderator.  Until that time, this group is open for a rolling comment wall.  I am not able to expire comments without closing the entire comment page, due to host program (Ning) limitations on moderation.

The Michael Voris VIDEO.

I see this a little differently. I see the message here as intertwined with the Catholic doctrine of suffering. (Which has a HUGE class bias, but that's another discussion!!). So, I think the point here is that the homosexual, as created by God, is to be admired more for his/her special burden of suffering. This is not humanism, it might be humanitarian, and it is quasi liberal. At least, the sermon is not rejecting or condeming. Compared to a reactionary doctrine of sin and condemnation and assersation of power (like right wing Opus Dei), this is liberal. This is closer to the compassion and charity branch of theoloty, like the left wing Catholic Workers. But I don't have to like it. As a non-theist, I too find it duplicitous, but not contradictory within the logic of faith in suffering. I think we can all see here a reason why many of us strayed from the faith to a more naturalist and Epicurean philosophy of life.

Put the Old Testament Biblical injunctions against homosexuality in context. These came from ancient sheepherder near pre-agricultural tribal societies that were very keen on proscribing anything that didn't promote a high birthrate for their tribe. Personally I could care less. The Bible is not my guide book and I don't think it should be anyone's ultimate guide book or final authority, not even for theists. But as intelligent, well read critical minded people we should keep the historical in perspective and not be pure literalists ourselves. There are two loving relationships that stand above all other relationships in the Bible as based on love and free choice over pre-arranged marriages or marriages for power. These are David and Jonathan, and Ruth and Naomi. That should tell us something about the cultural and political norms of marriage at the time. - Gary

That video is unbelievable.  I was just talking to my best friend about one of my exes, who was from Belfast and a 2% Catholic.  I recall her worrying about going to hell for being gay.  Her "strategy" was that when she got older, she would stop being gay and go to confession.  I'm not making this up.  It is a good thing she was cute, because if she had not been I would have dropped her on the spot for that nonsense.

Damn text editor. That should have read "Homosexuals are "More intensely loved by god than most others""

Homoexuals are "More intensely loved by go than most others" that's why the bible says they are an abomination. The aim of homosesuality is "the salvation of souls". I guess to become a priest? "The homosexual Catholic who accepts his cross... is a treasure beyond compare". "His cross will draw countless souls to christ".

The doublespeak here is beyond compare. Wow!

The offending post has been removed and the offending person is gone.  Brother Richard is aware and has removed him.  "Peace reins across the land"

CD, i can only hope that it still is and will be again.  I think the issue now is a serious lack of moderation.  Unfortunately, without that there is no way to prevent hate speech.  This LGBT group is probably the biggest Atheist-oriented LGBT group on the web, and I want it to continue to be a safe haven.

Atheist nexus is now a soap box for homophobic rapper Charlie Check'm  here.   When Infidel Guy had a brain fart and interviewed Charlie, I de-subscribed to his forum.  Charlie showed off his usual inane 4-year-old "logic" processes and homophobic word salad, but it didn't matter.  He had a forum.  Now Nexus is his forum.  The fact that almost all responses are negative doesnt change that he has a forum here.
