I love the interview, Carl! And it is important to remember - LGBT-friendly shops here are marked with a sticker that bears the name of the last gay who was executed in this town in the 19th century. Gruesome to think of.
The Gay Muslim Marriage video, doesn't work here.
Daniel, I thank you for the Gay Muslim marriage in UK, although I could not hear a word. I tried several different things to get the audio; nothing worked.
The beautiful garments and flowers looked splendid. I tried to read lips or imagine what they said, but could not.
Thank you, Carl, for that lovely interview between a young and elder man. The questions and answers moved me, both in their honesty with each other, and their clarity of experience.
Carl, thanks for posting. That's really important. I often feel like the younger generation doesn't seem to comprehend, or respect, us oldsters.
Gay Muslim marriage in UK. Actually, they don't look all that happy about it.
It's always important to remember our past and to make sure it's not forgotten.
One of my all-time favorite novels, Earthly Powers by Anthony Burgess, opens in Malta with one of the best first sentences I've run across:
It was the afternoon of my eighty-first birthday, and I was in bed with my catamite when Ali announced that the archbishop had come to see me.
Conservative, Catholic, tiny Malta, to legalize gay marriage. I always thought it would be cool to visit Malta, because it is so tiny and obscure, and in the middle of the Mediterranean.
Interesting story in The Guardian about Mae West getting into trouble for her play about gay male sexuality in the 1920s. "The Drag was inspired by her many gay friends. She knew their daily struggles to be open about their relationships, and to be accepted for who they were. When casting the play, she actively sought out gay actors."
In Germany - Im surprised! Merkel has long opposed marriage equality, and still does. But most Germans are in favor. I guess there are still some legal hurdles but maybe it will go smoothly. I hope so. German persecution of LGBT people leaves a lot to forgive. Ning wanted to go there and visit my ancestral villages, but I have not expressed enthusiasm for that. Largely because of German culture and attitudes.
