Forum is now open for comments only, due to limited moderation.

The original creator has been absent 8 years.  She may no longer identify as Lesbian or as Atheist, but could still experience discrimination due to being listed as creator of this group.  This group does come up on internet search with this person, and her photo photo, as group creator.  We live in era when discrimination can be expected to increase on many fronts.

I moderated since that time. On several occasions, I requested that another member moderate, but was unable to find a volunteer who would actively moderate content.

Please be aware, posts left active on this group, especially discussion forum, can be hazardous to members, even ones who have been gone for many years.  In most states and countries, there is no protection for LGBT people regarding employment, housing, or employment.  The same is true regarding atheists.  Some members may not even be aware of discrimination, and may not be aware that their old posts and images are still there to come back and haunt them.  Posts and the membership list are visible on internet searches.

There has been at least one case of a member of Atheist Nexus experiencing employment discrimination due to their membership.

Another member of Atheist Nexus was murdered in India, in 2011 (Ajita Kamal).  As far as I can tell, the perpetrator and motive were never found, but Kamal was a known atheist, and known atheists are frequently targeted for brutal killings in South Asia.

Any member who posts, without having their own photo or name on their screen name and avatar, is expressing implied agreement, by default, about the importance of privacy, even on the internet.

A controversial group needs an active moderator, who will look out for the needs and safety of the members, as much as possible in such a forum.

As has recently been done, posts on Atheist Nexus are subject to screenshots.  They are also be subject to internet search.

I recommend that interested members start a new LGBT group, so that there is no issue with long absent group creator and no longer having a moderator.  Until that time, this group is open for a rolling comment wall.  I am not able to expire comments without closing the entire comment page, due to host program (Ning) limitations on moderation.

The anti-equality referendum in Slovakia (which would have also banned adoption by same-sex couples, and allowed parents to remove their children from sex education) failed spectacularly, with only 21% of eligible voters casting ballots.

In Slovakia a referendum vote is binding only with a turnout of at least 50%. LGBT-rights groups had urged opponents of the referendum to stay home for that reason.

(Of course, the heterosexist supremacists are probably trumpeting the 90-95% yes votes among those people who did show up. And now, more than ever before, we've seen the new Pope's true colors.)

The U.S. State Department is planning to appoint a special envoy "to advocate for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people overseas." [Boston Globe] Legislation to accomplish this was introduced in Congress last week. Representative Chris Smith, R NJ, head of the subcommittee over human rights and international organizations, said "I am a strong believer in traditional marriage and I do not construe homosexual rights as human rights."

That would clearly entail the contention that homosexuals are therefore not humans. Gee, I wonder what species he thinks we belong to???

I would think the pope would be more against heterosexual marriage, then.  They are too waskally to trust.  Even so, he's come out officially against marriage equality in Slovakia.

Why Pope Fudd thinks he should have a role in Slovakia politicsis beyond me.

The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision.

I can't add anything to the views that have already been expressed here about the state of our country.  Sometimes I just want the ability to shake these people by the shoulders and ask, "What the hell are you thinking?!  Use your brain for once!"

Regarding an earlier conversation, I'd rather work as a porn actor than to be employed in the slimy environment of religious preaching.

I think that Bush was definitely a front man for Cheney, who could NEVER have been elected (or even nominated) on his own.  Bush just played his "good ol' boy" cheerleader and did what he was told.  He may even have believed he was actually running things, for all I know.

And we have to remember that Al Gore won the popular vote, and what the Supremes did was totally unconstitutional.  I re-read the full U.S. Constitution last week, and it carefully spells out the correct procedure if there is a tie.  The Court is NOT mentioned at all in that section.

And in 2004, I suspect that the Ohio voting machines were rigged.

I vote by mail....the completed ballots may be scanned electronically, but I still feel more secure about the fact that there IS a paper trail.

Felaine, I always viewed GWBush as a puppet.  When Rove was the puppet master, Bush was his toy.  After election, with Cheney as "the adult" in the white house, Cheney was the puppet master and Bush was his puppet.  Bush doesn't have the brains, or the character, to actually come up with his own thoughts or ideas.  I guess it's kind of mean to criticize Bush, just for being stupid.

Chrissie, you are more optimistic about Americans than I am.  But there are some good people.  I get so disappointed and frustrated about popular culture and politics and religion.

Chrissie, a lot of us are trying, but the Catholic majority on the Supreme court is doing everything they can to stifle "We, the People."

Most honest polls show that the majority of citizens are in favor of same sex marriages (and other LGBT issues), and hate the Koch Bros and Tubby Rove with a passion.  But they have so effing much money that they can afford to buy everyone in DC, and have change left over.

I'd like to see Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren run for the White House as a team; I have NO use for that professional Xian, Hillary Clinton.

As for the Rethuglican party....It ceased to be the party of Lincoln almost 100 years ago, but a large number of older African-Americans don't seem to realize that...or they are too wrapped up in the Jesus myth, and favor the Tea/Toilet Party's policies.

Yes Daniel W. I often let my feelings out.  I have seen the down side of a lot of the American policy.  I was a 13 year Vet of the USAF from 52 right through to to 66 but that carries no weight. I was disowned and now have a British Citizenship.  I finally got a Visa through my Daughter who was born in England.  To date the only thing that the Vet. department has done is to get me to help make a video to help VA Doctors manage to deal with Transgender Vets. Of course if I was sick I could join the Que. The American people are just about the best that exist but they allow a lot of politicians who only have their own existence in view to destroy the way of life that should prevail in this country. The people of this land are told to believe that Atheists, Gay People including Transgender people are a total threat to their way of life and that same sex couples will destroy the American way. They follow like rats to the cliff because some politician said so and never question anything. Of course the Catholic Church ( The most offensive and the biggest bunch of murderers in history ) insist that they know what mankind need.  At 81 I am not sure just how much time I have left to rock the boat but for as long as I have I will try and piss off these bible thumping idiots who seem hell bent on screwing up what could be a wonderful life in this land. OK so I hope all on this site are able to think for themselves to go at this bunch. Take the American Government away from the Koch brothers and make it your government. Life will be much better.  As for me, No Sex,pl

ease,, I'm British!

Daniel, do you think Mary is desperately trying to hang onto her monster of a father's approval?  Or maybe "daddy" is the experimenter and Dummya is the monster he created...
