Conor: I did actually hesitate before renovating the church. I certainly did the thieve's guild and brothel first out of principle!

I know I take the opportunity to offend clerics, paladins and similar priestly NPCs when I play games like Baldur's Gate II (smacking Anomen around is fun, even if he is a wee bit strawmannish). And I certainly dodge religious classes in RPGs when I get a choice.

I took a great deal of amusement out of the fact that my Russian community, which was a republic with 0 taxation, reached Alpha Centauri thanks to the benevolent contribution of an entirely altruistic scientific populace, 1778. This was in a society that had never built a temple and had never researched religion. We were too busy mastering genetic engineering and flight.

It was made funnier by the Germans turning up in Phalanxes in wooden boats making death threats and demanding I give them the secret of technology that they lacked, such as Code Of Laws and Masonry. I imagine these three Russian musketeers standing at the line of a city with this baffled 'These guys serious?' look on their faces.

Conor brings up an interesting point; who else here, when the opportunity comes to thumb your nose at religion, even in the most transient of ways in a video game, take it?

When I play Civilization, even knowing what JS Bach's Cathedral can do for me, I avoid researching Religion, for example.

AC II is one of the few games that is better then the first one. It is one of the few games that has pulled me away from MW2. I love me some FPS!

I noticed that my going to work everyday is the opposite of me playing ACII all day. How am I supposed to get Altair's armor when I'm going over wiring schematics?

Also, did anyone else have apprehension about renovating the church? Even in a semi-fictional digital world the idea of helping a church out makes my bones quiver.
