One reason I have a very difficult time getting my bod out in windy, 25F weather, is my eyes and nose run constantly.  I have to keep interrupting what I'm doing to blow my nose and dab my eyes.  They get irritated and I get irritated.  I should look into getting a used spacesuit helmet :)

Well, I do like to keep active. (I took a nice long walk in the nature preserve behind my house yesterday.) But, I know when and how to rest, too! I try to take a nap after lunch every day, for example. I'm not doing any garden work right now, although I'm itching for a truck load of compost from "the farm". I could shovel it in, but a tractor bucket load would be welcomed! Then I'll have to shovel it out and spread it around. I'd like to get that done before winter really sets in--and to give it a chance to soak into the ground.

Daniel, I feel the same.  I don't like being told what to do.  I also don't like telling other people what to do, and I don't.  I would hate being a boss.

Daniel, I don't know how you accomplish all that you do. From where does your energy come? My cancer was less intrusive than yours, a much smaller episode and I just can't get up and out to work. I do fine to get up and sit outside.

I have grown to love the forest and not fuss over not having a beautiful food forest that I worked 40 years to get it to just where I want it.

The beautiful 9" snowfall we had yesterday melted off the trees during the night. The roads range from completely clear to dangerously icy on shady spots of the highway.

I fly out Saturday, Dec. 23 for Denver where I will spend the rest of the winter with Craig and his family.

Thomas, I don't know about using urine, either. The fellows have done their best, and we lost a chicken to a raccoon. Coyotes come through our property on a regular basis and took out the geese and ducks who were free-ranging. They also took a beloved cat.

.I searched for scientific studies about urine used as deterrents for critters and didn't find anything. I am sure there is research somewhere, my research skills didn't work.

Thomas, I don't know about using urine to deter animals and bugs.  From what I read, there are mixed opinions.  Some even say it will attract some animals, especially bears.

Wikipedia's Animal Repellent page says predator's urine, hair, and blood will repel animals they eat, but doesn't mention human urine, hair, or blood.

Epic Urban Community Garden Just Off The Interstate!

This amazing interview of an urban community garden offers many fresh permaculture ideas useful to individuals and communities. It is well worth the time to take a look.

I especially like the part of this garden designed for the police dept to train dogs. It is pretty and creative.

The plans for the city's community gardens serve many

Randy, I'm lazy compared to you, so imagine how I feel compared to Daniel.

Sorry about bringing up this subject again but I have a nagging question: Wouldn't using human urine in the garden deter wild animals and bugs from devouring our fruits and vegetables?

Holy cow, Daniel! That's a lot of work and a lot of calories! When did you turn into Superman? I'm feeling like a slob, even if I do walk at least 6 miles a day besides boxing, etc. I did split and stack some firewood yest. Mostly, however, I sat in front of the TV watching football all afternoon. I mean, it's winter around here, for goodness sakes!
