"Nature demands a gift for everything that it gives, so what we have to keep doing, is returning [leaves & compost materials] back to the soil, then we're continuously giving the gifts to nature, because we have a return cycle."
The Forested Garden: What is a Food Forest?
One of the Homesteading families I enjoy watching grow! The kids take on jobs and chores with smiles of enthusiasm rarely found in modern families. Jonah, the eldest boy, earns money and buys his own electric tools. He has and takes care of tools as good as or better than his adult family members.
Northwest Missouri homesteading family have a break from winter. The hard daytime freezes ended for us, too, in NE WA State, and blue skies signal the arrival of Spring.
My garden remains untouched. But, I did plot it out on paper last night. I'm a month away from actual gardening. Getting antsy.
I surely have shared this video before but the conditions of soil and water matter so much, I want to remember that conditions can be changed. Unfortunately, with the political wars and conflicts, soils and water become used as weapons. Soils and water used for profits and not for people diminish us all. Starve people into submission works. Policies and practices can pollute production.
I like pictures like that, Spud.
Yes, Joan, WL has been in cold snap for most of Feb. & now into March. I don't care as long as the roads stay clear for the trip home on Thursday. Rick has arranged for an ambulance to meet the health bus to take us to our home.
Idaho Power had this picture on their site. I thought it was attractive.
Three weeks ago, heavy snow fell every other day. Made me get my exercise shoveling the sidewalks and driveway.
It's been warmer than usual here, and starting a week ago, it's been much warmer. It's usually in the 30s F in the morning and 40s F in midday. Predictions are the same for the next week.
It's past time to plant peas but I keep forgetting.
We remain below freezing day and night through tonight, expect a warming trend to start tomorrow. Nights remain below freezing. Snow flurries forecasted for mid-week; with a warming trend, we expect snow on top of ice on the highways. U.S. and State highways should be worn off by traffic while the county roads will probably present hazards.
Patricia, Williams Lake, B.C. looks cold for the coming week.
Ruth, oh! to see spring leaves! They can withstand light frost and snow. Let's hope the spring blossoms dont\'t get damaged.
Spud, what is happening in Pocatello, ID?
