Brutal 4 Minutes for All of Religion Christopher Hitchens

Just think about this for a minute, “three thousand years ago, at the most, it was decided, NOW, we have got to intervene NOW! God has to intervene in human affairs, and you have to believe it, you must believe the revelation must be personal, so we will pick the most backward, the most barbaric, the most illiterate, the most superstitious, the most savage people we can find, in the most stony area of the world. He won’t appear to the Chinese who can already read, he wont appear in the Indus Valley where they already know a thing or two that very few of us know. We’ll appear to this brutal, slaved, hopeless, superstitious crowd and we’ll force them to cut their way through all their neighbors with slaughter, genocide and racism, and settle in the only part of the Middle East where there is no oil. All subsequent revelations appear in this same district. Without this we wouldn't know right from wrong.”

~ Christopher Hitchens

Absurd, isn't it! And for so many years, I believed it!

The greatest thing about atheism to me is the ability to think, observe outcomes, and make choices from every option I can think of. My life is richer, fuller, more meaningful and less harmful than when I lived under the mindbinding of religion.

Of course, the people who promulgate this hogwash will tell you that it wasn't 200,000 years or even 100,000, but that, according to Bishop Ussher, it's only been 6,000 years, perhaps 10,000 at most, or so says their magic book.

This is the mindset of a belief which either cannot conceive of or will not acknowledge vast amounts of TIME, a time scale not on the thousands or millions of years but of BILLIONS.  It cannot or will not consider how much can happen in a time frame which is at least Four Orders Of Magnitude longer than the length of time man has been on this planet, because it is within that framework that the universe came to be out of the big bang, that indeed, older stars were created and became supernovae BEFORE our sun even came to be.

And of course, they don't want to ... because all of that inconvenient evidence contradicts the aforementioned magic book.  These are SCARED people who want to live in IGNORANCE.  Frightened, uninformed people ... I can think of few things more utterly DANGEROUS.

Loren, thanks for your stirring words. I reposted on Facebook for family and friends to read.
