Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

punishing doubt (TheraminTrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Joan Denoo Oct 17. 2 Replies

If you are associated with religion and especially a fundamentalist religion, doubt is intolerable.  Certainty, however it may be achieved or imposed, becomes a necessary element, especially considering the utter dearth of any form of evidence or…Continue

A moment to relax and see the Earth from space; some how this comforts me.

All the squabbles and struggles that I have do not compare with those of some others on this great planet. There are no boundary lines, no political arguments, no up or no down. What is, is. For right now, the scenes offer tranquility. Just the…Continue

bending truth, or "We Can All Be Manipulated" (TheraminTrees)

The following is one of TheraminTrees' most thorough-going pieces, wherein he looks at the process and techniques whereby a "religious" organization (which will sound VERY familiar to most of us, once introductions are made!) takes a person who…Continue

Thanks for the invitation, Ruth.  I recently moved to Kansas where the taxes are much higher than where I lived before.  Food prices are easily double what they were where I lived before.  I've been trying to grow a garden this spring, but I don't know the first thing about it and I feel like it's not going too well.  I'm trying to do it the organic way, but I don't really know what I'm doing.  I hope others in this group know more about this than me.  I've been reading and watching all the videos from the state extension service I can.   They make it sound so easy.

Thank you for the invite Ruth. I don`t do much on the Nexus any more, other than following discussions in various groups. Most of my social computer time is spent on "Facecrack", as I haven't been able to get any of my relatives here (and yet, none of them are religious).
I live in what I call "Buttfuck" Alberta, between "Diddlysquat" and "Fuckall" (Veteran, Alberta, Canada. Google Earth that and you'll know what I mean). My official job is an oil field truck driver/rig hauler, driving a 2002 Peterbuilt winch truck, hauling parts of oil and gas drilling rigs around the prairies (mostly eastern Alberta/western Saskatchewan). This is only part of what I do though, as it is a little village, we have to be very diverse. The company I work for is also the local auto and heavy duty repair shop, Commercial Vehicle Inspection Place (CVIP safety inspection shop) and tire shop. We do a wide variety of other thing, but they're too numerous to mention. I also do some machining for our shop.
For relaxation, I machine stuff in my living room, read books on science, do photography, and try to learn as much as I can.
You'll have to excuse me now, as I have a piece of aluminum that needs to be milled into shape, as a component on the hydraulic winch on our bed truck. The aluminum was part of a damaged set, that made up a suspension hanger on a Western Star truck, and I'm recycling it into part of the bed truck's winch. I love this type of recycling!

Thanks, Ruth, and hi, gang!  Yours truly is from Cleveland, Ohio.  Unemployed at the moment, but with some prospects on the horizon, and close enough to retirement age that I can SMELL it!  I'm half-crazy ... and I'm not 100% certain about the other half!

Thanks, David. I feel that too. The whole idea of this group is to create a safe community, where people can express themselves.

It's funny, I have never met a single one of you, but you somehow feel like family. Weird huh?

Hello, y'all.  West Virginian ex-Jew here.  Going to a bat mitzvah this weekend and trying to keep sane.  It is not gonna be easy...all the relatives are going to give me a hard time about my 9 yr old, and why he hasn't even started religious school.    ...Um, because I don't agree with the hocus pocus...and no, mom, I won't use it as an excuse to throw thousands of dollars away for a fancy party.
