Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

A Prayer for Our Nation (Betty Bowers)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Patricia yesterday. 1 Reply

I'm going to keep this one short and sweet.  Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, has seen what is going on with the current occupant of the Oval Office, and my impression is that she is not at all happy with it.  True to her citizenship,…Continue

Any Babymetal Fans Here?

Any Babymetal fans here besides me? I have to ask because 1) I really like Babymetal and 2) Babymetal unknowingly played a role in my journey out of religion. For those who are unfamiliar with Babymetal, here is a link to one of their most popular…Continue

If you could rid the world of one thing, what would it be?

Started by Idaho Spud. Last reply by Ruth Anthony-Gardner Sep 11. 30 Replies

Today, I heard Seth Andrews talk about the question, "If you could rid the world of one thing, what would it be?"  My first thought was religion, but after a few seconds I decided it would be irrational or anti-scientific thinking.  That would take…Continue

Eating Our Own: How You Can Save the Movement (David Smalley | The Thinking Atheist)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Daniel W Aug 27. 11 Replies

While I've been peripherally aware of him for a while, David Smalley has not spent much time in the center of my focus when it came to scoping out atheist material on YouTube or elsewhere ... at least up until now.  His talk – Eating Our Own – came…Continue

I am about to post a conversation from a few months ago. I will start with the first post and work my way up. Hope you all enjoy it!

Thanks. I reworded it for me from someone. I wish I had kept track of where I found it. I would reword on sentence:

"I am also a face and a target of religious hatred as a woman and as an ATHEIST." ...

I am not a victim, nor are any of us, IMHO.

Joan that was a beautiful personal statement.
Wonderful!

@ Sylvia, this is a manifesto I wrote for myself. You may get some ideas for yourself. This helped me clarify my position and face the hate mail I get on a regular basis. I also get a lot of affirmative responses as well.

"I am one face among many before me. I am a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a best friend, an activist, I am 76 years old and I have participated in civil rights movements, marched, picketed, lobbied, debated, and worked for women's health and rights.
I am also a face and a victim of religious hatred as a woman and as an ATHEIST.
I will not concede to the Christian majority's opinion about what I should think or do as a body, a female, a human on this pale blue dot of a planet.
Religion lost the power to make me feel guilty when I was abandoned by the superstitions of religion.
I am good without god, and I do believe in something. I believe in humanity."

"...not everyone has been called to believe..."???!  So it's already been set up, who will go to Heaving and who will go to Hail (where all the fun people supposedly go).  What's the point of proselytizing, then?

MONEY!

God has already decided to send you/me to hell. "But he LOVES you! And he needs MONEY!" Check out George Carlin's number about religion on You Tube, and post the link on your FB page.

******************

If anyone says to me that their imaginary fiend (yes, I spelled it correctly!) is real, just toss two words at them: "Evidence, please."  There isn't any.  The buybull is not evidence.

The same thing goes for Jesus...The Roman era in the Middle East has been thoroughly covered by scholars and historians who lived in Jerusalem and Galilee in those times, and there is NOT ONE single comment about a miracle-working, rabble rousing, self-appointed rabbi...overturning money-changers tables,  a trial in front of Pilate, anything. Or a crucifiction (again, my deliberate spelling).

"Faith" is a cop-out.

That last post is just Pascal's Wager all over again.  Old.

If you get tired of dealing with these crazies, DUMP them!  I know they "mean well," but George Bernard Shaw said that was the worst thing you can say about a person.

PS: I tried FB 3 years ago and unsubscribed after a week.  I couldn't handle it...all the crashing bores from my past seemed to crawl out of the innertubes to pester me, and the people I really like were already in touch via e-mail.  More personal, and private.

Request sent, Sylvia, thanks! :) I can't wait to see the religious-type posts in the future.

You know, when people say there is a difference between religion and a relationship with christ, I never get a coherent explanation. It's all circular BS, a always. And how do you have a 'personal' relationship with a being that has never been seen? ugh!
