Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Degrees of Doubt: The Claims and Credentials of Ravi Zacharias (The Thinking Atheist)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Chris May 17. 1 Reply

Anyone here ever run onto an apologist by the name of Ravi Zacharias?  I've seen his name dropped multiple times on YouTube as supposedly being THE ONE APOLOGIST that no atheist wants to cross swords with, because of his facility with christian…Continue

attacking ideas (TheraminTrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Grinning Cat Apr 4. 1 Reply

Attacking ideas is a considerable portion of what we as atheists do.  Why attack ideas?  Ideas earn attack when they don't serve people, not just us but those who adopt said ideas, mistakenly thinking that they have value when they don't.  Our…Continue

bending truth, or "We Can All Be Manipulated" (TheraminTrees)

The following is one of TheraminTrees' most thorough-going pieces, wherein he looks at the process and techniques whereby a "religious" organization (which will sound VERY familiar to most of us, once introductions are made!) takes a person who…Continue

The Playboy Interview: Richard Dawkins

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Loren Miller Mar 28. 16 Replies

I suppose it was the news that Playboy magazine was returning nudes to its pages after a year's hiatus that sufficiently perked my curiosity to check them out again.  I hadn't looked at Playboy since perhaps 2008, when I began to recognize that I…Continue

Good morning! And yes, a little cat hair on an outfit is a badge of honor.

Thanks, Napoleon, for the videos and maps of the secret lives of cats!

In Philadelphia we're at the northern end of an "area of concern for tornadoes" this afternoon and evening.

Thanks Napoleon, I enjoyed that very much!

Nearly sprayed my breakfast over my laptop laughing at those funny pics. Thanks all.

Steph. the cat in the food dish looks SO much like my Pumpkin!

I did a bad thing today...I bought 3 different kinds of frozen desserts (treats) from the Schwan's truck. How much y'all wanna bet that none of them last till the 4th of July?  (I can't help it, I love ice cream and fruit pops, and all that stuff.

Annnnnd....I gave Hairy Jerry a whole jar of Gerber's baby food chicken, and he ate the whole thing.  I guess I'll have to try some other flavors, and see how he does...except that stuff is so expensive.  But...I'll feed him anything he wants to eat...he DOES want to eat, but he's starting to have trouble chewing and swallowing...and he's still losing weight.  If I thought he wanted to give up...well, you know.  But he so obviously wants to stay alive for the time being. (I'm going to be a wreck when it's time for him to "leave the building.") It's so sad tht his original owners abandoned him in a cattery when he was about 8 years old, and he spent 5 years there before I adopted him.  *sigh*

I wish he could speak English...I need to talk to him.

booklover and Flying Atheist, I think we got off lightly with these storms. Some thought another derecho was in the offing this afternoon.

Steph, the empty cat dish is funny.

Joan, thanks for making a fractals for fun group.

Glad you're OK Mindy.  The storm was not too bad by me.  Watching the radar, it looked like the most severe weather passed just north and just south of me, leaving me in a relatively calm pocket.

Steph, I love the cat in the food dish.  That's an adorable picture.

Patricia, there's a lot of strange aspects about the picture you posted.......

How and why did the bull get on the car?

There's snow on the ground.

The multistory buildings in the background indicate this as being an urban area and not a farm.

Perhaps he got loose, wandered off into the cold, walked for miles and was attracted to the warmth of a recently run car engine.

Got behind here. Summer class is really more work than I thought. I did my test on Monday. Class just flies by.

How is everyone? Joan I love the avatar that Ruth made you.

Joan, your new avatar really suits you! (No matter what some cats might think.)

Wow! You adopted my image as your new avatar. I'm honored, Joan.

Good quote, Flying Atheist.

booklover, I love the one huge dot picture.
