Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

The Gun Industry's Killing in Killing (Betty Bowers)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Chris G on Wednesday. 15 Replies

America's Best Christian has finally acknowledged that there may be one outfit which has her belief system beat for it's leverage on the government.  No great surprise, it's the NRA and the gun industries.  Betty's a good loser, though.  She's made…Continue

The Ark Encounter: A Less than Grand Opening (The Thinking Atheist)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Loren Miller on Tuesday. 4 Replies

The day finally arrived.  Ken Ham's Ark Encounter opened on 7 July, 2016 ... to something a bit less than Disney-sized crowds, and more than a couple dissenting voices!  Seth Andrews has gathered a quartet of significant participants in the protest…Continue

The God of Cancer (The Thinking Atheist)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Joan Denoo Jul 18. 10 Replies

Seth Andrews has been through the mill as it comes to dealing with those who insist that their faith in a deity is not just valid but necessary to their lives and to all lives.  Having dealt with that gauntlet and come out the other side an atheist,…Continue

We Are America / Love Has No Labels (John Cena - Ad Council)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Joan Denoo Jul 10. 3 Replies

It seems to be a repeating pattern: I wander around the internet and inevitably, I stumble onto all manner of stuff.  It happens all the time on YouTube, and as you doubtless have deduced, yours truly tripped over something a couple minutes ago,…Continue

NBC News Gives Ken Ham Free Advertising

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Loren Miller Jul 2. 13 Replies

Ordinarily I toggle between CBS News with Scott Pelley and NBC News with Lester Holt in the early evening, mostly to avoid commercials, but I'm wondering if I should give ABC's news division another chance after this evening's broadcast.  NBC…Continue

Peonies evoke memories of my grandmothers' gardens. When driving through the Palouse in Whitman County, there are many abandoned farms, with houses caved in, gardens gone to weeds and always, there are peonies and iris growing lushly. They survive heat and cold, wet and dry, wind and stagnant air.

Laura has a "generations garden" at their place in the forest. It has plants from her great-great grandparents, grandparents, and from my garden. Her grandchildren live in a house on the same property.

Peonies remind me of my childhood home.  My mother had them planted in the back yard garden.  Her peonies and irises were always my favorite.

Chris, I'm glad to hear that all your hard work will be coming to an end soon.  Yes, you deserve a long rest and your "me time" back.

Your well-earned rest is in sight. Very glad to read that, Chris.

That's a fun (dog-head) photo, Joan. Stealing.

Thank you, Joan, it's lovely! I put it on my desktop, so it will make me smile for many days! I'm doing the last lessons of the season, only a summer course goes on till the end of July. And we hope to move brother-in-law somewhere in the next month. The stuff is almost packed and we've put away an enormous load of rubbish since January. We're really looking forward to the end of this project - there are caretakers that need info, furniture to be bought and assembled, moving and unpacking everything, the unfriendly cat to be taken care of, the old apartment must be sold - after that I'm going to sleep for a month.

Plinius, I've been thinking about you today, hoping your days bring some pleasure and peace. Here is just a little blossom to let you know you are on my mind.

This peony blossom came from a root I dug out of my grandmother Laura Howe Whitehead's garden. It blooms so beautifully every year.

A beautiful one, Joan!

Felaine, thank you for the link to Lake Hypatia and the memorial to Atheists in Foxholes.

If you have a MacBook, I can walk you through the process for photos.

Ruth, I used the Roman Catholic version of Cyril because the church honored him with sainthood even as he incited hated within the church over doctrine that resulted in the butchering of Hypatia.

We already know that the RCC rewards those who raise money even as he or she exploits the poor and manipulates the wealthy.

For those of you who haven't seen it, Ron Reagan's FFRF commercial may be found here.  Enjoy!
