Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

The day finally arrived.  Ken Ham's Ark Encounter opened on 7 July, 2016 ... to something a bit less than Disney-sized crowds, and more than a couple dissenting voices!  Seth Andrews has gathered a quartet of significant participants in the protest…Continue

Check out this tag on a "Wet and Forget" container I recently bought.Shoot--it came out sideways. Anyway it says: You're wasting your time! This product is only effective if you read the instructions thoroughly. But I know you probably won't. So go ahead, do the job twice. You probably have a PHD in time wasting. Who am I to give you advice.

I think this is hilarious! Well, I DID follow directions. Now to wait to see if the product eliminates the moss and lichen from my porch roof as advertized.

Yes, neat old L.A. photos. Thanks. My mother was a big "collector" of green stamps. I still have a knife and hatchet set she gave me 60 years ago!

Speaking of my parents, I went to my father's house yest (Sun) to wish him a happy fathers day. He's 96 and sort of down and out with the "dizzies" from Meniere's disease, a life-long problem for him. No fun. Still sharp as a tack, however.

More old L.A.  Without photos...so far.

His second wife was my paternal grandfather's sister, and my Dad's favorite aunt. She lived to be 97...seems to be a curse of our family.

A little late, but Happy Father's Day to all the fathers here.  I spent an enjoyable afternoon with my parents.  And great weather to boot!

Shorpy has some interesting historical photos. Cute monorail cat gif, sk8eycat.

My family used drinking glasses that were free from gas stations too, booklover.

I have a complete set of DescoWare that I got from Blue Chip Stamps (a west Coast version of Green Stamps) back in the 1960s.

They were so ubiquitous that NO gas station or retail store could stay in business for very long without "giving" them out.  Of course the cost of the things was included in the price of the mdse they were selling, so the customer was really paying for the "freebies."

S'funny the way they all vanished with the first oil embargo in the 1970s...tee-hee!

They were a PITA to me because every bookkeeping outfit I worked for specialized in gas stations...and I got the job of costing them out. Gah!

Also...remember when there were gas stations on every damn corner?  You could choose your brand, knew the owners, etc?  Long gone.

I remember banks giving gifts.  I notice some still will give $100 for putting so much in and leaving it there for a certain period.

I've been tempted, but it's too much trouble, especially because I like my credit union.  I've been a member of a credit union since I started making money.  They don't cost as much as a bank and give more in interest.  Never used a bank.

Felaine, that's hilarious.  Looks like something from Monty Python.

Speaking of gas stations, remember when they used to give out premiums and gifts, like banks used to?  I know that one of our Xmas music records, a wonderful Julie Andrews album acquired in the 60's, was from a gas station promoted by Firestone.

I also remember my grandmother moving her money around to different banks so she could get the free gift.  Blenders, fans, and little household gadgets.
