Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

degrading love — part one (TheraminTrees)

Mindy! Looks as though you are getting some nice atheist friends that you can actually see! Nothing wrong with virtual friends, and it is pleasing, indeed, to have ones with whom you can sit an chat.

I know I am shamelessly sharing this response of Laura, my daughter, when I apologized to her for being so strict with her when she was little.

Laura wrote: "The strictness came in handy for me as an adult though, because I don't settle for 'good enough'. I take pride in what I have and what I do and I attribute that to how you and Dad raised us. I wouldn't trade those years in for anything! I do think that I flourished as a teenager from the more collaborative approach because it helped me to think and act as a team-player in life, realizing that my actions could affect more than just me. You also guided us through our teenage years, when we were seeking independence, in a way that stimulated personal responsibility from within us. I couldn't have asked for a better mom!

Randy, I know the feeling all too well. Thankfully, I got over it. Now I stand tall, proud, confidence, comfortable and state, "I am an atheist!" No one has fainted, or hit me, or usually don't respond back. I do notice our conversations are short afterwards.

It feels good to state, emphatically, that I believe there is no god.

My cousins, one married to a Lutheran minister and is often depressed and sounds highly stressed, and others stopped communicating with me on Facebook and that is their choice, not mine. I think they are missing out on an interesting relative. However, the grapevine always worked extremely well in the past and I am sure will function quite well.

Hmmmm... there are medical "missionaries" who are entirely secular; Doctors Without Borders is one such organization.

Has your friend found out which type of "missionaries" she would have to write about?  Maybe she could drop a line or two into the article about DWB....???

I wish more "notables" would speak out like Ricky. Don't know if it does any good, but it "makes my day"!

At a friend's retirement party last night, someone asked me where I went to church. All I could admit to was that I didn't go. I'm almost ashamed I didn't "fess up" and say I was an atheist. It wasn't the time or place or person I wanted to "come out" to. Dang.

The shopping penguin was fun.  I wonder how long a King penguin can stand hot weather, but haven't been able to find-out yet.

Oh Carl. Here's wishing you positive news on your test results and a good recovery. And don't worry about not being with us on occasion. We understand.
