Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Apparently, Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, has been slumming.  That is to say, she's been talking to Mike Pence [gasp!].  It would seem as though Mike has offered some of his not-so-personal tricks of the trade on how to be a 21st century…Continue

Chris, glad to hear you're surviving the fires.   I've not kept up with the news on them.  It sounds much worse than I thought.

Patricia, hope your sugery and recovery goes well.  My dad had very little problem with his hip replacement.

Ask them about music and headphones.  If they don't have them, ask if you can bring your own.

I can imagine your desire to not know what's going on.  I've never been much afraid to be awake, but I've never had major surgery like you're going to have.

Patricia,

My understanding is the faster you get up if immediately after surgery the better your new joints will set.   Ignore my suggestion about a self rising chair - don't get one.

Physical therapy is needed numerous times throughout the day post surgery until the patent is ambulatory. If you aren't able to walk after the implant your surgeon needs to know. Maybe something didn't fit right.   Get your hip fixed so you can walk and live a somewhat normal life.  The initial pain you may suffer with will relieve you of long term discomfort and  lack of mobility.

I'm inclined to follow up.  I wrote the Chief of Police and Fire Chief a year or so ago about the earthquake early warning system.

I also sent my federal congressman asking about availability of self contained water purificification systems a month or so ago in response to the hurricanes. Water purificaton systems should be available in numerous quantities.

Unfortunately as seen with Hurricane Katrina and G.W. Bush's sucessfull attempt to privatise FEMA  many resources, by that I mean skilled people were dismissed. With that went  equipment.   People I knew who worked on  the aftermath of Katrina said most of the equipment was unusable.

I'm curious about the reverse 911. My neigbor called me because she had some sort of application on her cell phone.  People with landlines should have been notified too.  People who were home bound/disabled, or without transportation may have unfortunately died becuse of lack initial coordination.

Some of this emergency planning makes me angry.   The lack of follow up makes me more angry.

The military has shipping containers with a wall  splitting them in half to make a kind of miniture studio appartment.

Why is Haiti still suffering with a cholea outbreak?  Puerto Rico is suffering from water contamination too.

Rapidly deployable water purification systems are under a GSA contract and would be availalbe if FEMA  had the money and other resources to deploy them.

There in lies the problem. " If FEMA had the resources."

With climate change mass catrastopies will continue.

The Don says his response to Puerto Rico was 10 of 10.   Ignoramous who denies reality and climate change will never be prepared for emergency management.

When I evacuated the fire near my house was only 2% conained.  Four days later the fire was ~27% contained.  My understanding is firefighters arrived from Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Australia, New Zealand and BC.  At first the smoke was so dense that ariel's couldn't be used to help extingush the fire.  The response was quick and well managed.

The fire wasn't bad here.  In Sonoma County 20,00 people are homeless.

I think I'll follow up on some of this stuff..

I'm glad to hear you're safe, Chris. I can't even imagine what it must have been like.

The fire burned so hot that many will never be identified.  Implants with serial number are being use to identify remains.

It's unfrotunate that a evacuation plan for disabled people, or people without transportation wasn't in place. I heard about the recommended evacuation from a neighbor. A reverse 911 system is available but apparently wasn't used.

I also wonder why self contained water filtration systems aren't available for Peurto Rico, Hati, U.S. Virgin Islands and elsewhere.

or why an earthquake early warning system isn't in place.

Comment by Joan Denoo on October 21, 2017 at 2:38am

You ask valid questions, Chris, I wonder, too, why an evacuation plan was not in place? Are you inclined to follow-up by asking the city and county officials why a comprehensive policy did not exist for disabled people and those without transportation?

I like your question about water filtration systems for  Peurto Rico, Haiti, U.S. Virgin Islands and other places hit by storms, earthquakes, fires, and other "acts of God." That seems like another worthwhile question to raise.

Such grim news & those terrible consequences for the people who weren't able to get out.

School buses were what got us out, & for any disabled, or people who had no transport.

Thanks for all of your concers about the recommended evacuation.  I returned home yesterday.

It was stressfull. Winds were predicted at 40-60 MPH during the night so I left when recommended.  My car overheated on the way out of town.  Fortunately my cousin recommened purchising bottled water. I've never purchased bottled water before, but am glad I had it to refill the radiator in my car so it made it back to my house as the temperature guage peaked at high.  I'm glad the engine didn't seaze.    My brother came and picked me up.

I stayed at his house longer than nececassary because I worked on the wiring of his house in attempt to repair a ground fault circuit interruper in his kitchen.  His house was extended from a small one bedroom house to a three bedroom house.  Often when that's done shortcuts are taken with wiring.   I almost had the wiring fixed, before he wore tired of me.

My brother let me borrow his truck. When my car is fixed I'll return his truck and hopefully be able to finish working on the wiring of his house.

When the fire started the winds were blowing, which woke me up. I went outside. It looked like it was snowing from the ash falling. If it were embers I would have awoken all of the neighbors to alert them to evacuate.

My neighbor called me to let me know about the suggested evacuation.

After some of this is sorted out I'm going to check with city and county emergency managers to see why a reverse 911 number wasn't used to assist disabled peoples evacuation.
