Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

the value of offence | qualiasoup & theramintrees

To me, this is a big deal (though it may not be to them): two great YouTube video producers have joined forces to deliver one very powerful message on an important subject.  TheraminTrees and QualiaSoup (brothers, I believe) have recently released a…Continue

The myth of religions

Started by Joan Denoo. Last reply by Joan Denoo Feb 16. 3 Replies

The creation myth of civilizations instructs men to dominate, to conquer, to go forth and multiply. No reasonable person would pay attention to such a god. No hunter-gatherer receives such a senseless message from wise elders. However, that idea…Continue

10 Tricks from 46 (Betty Bowers)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Ruth Anthony-Gardner Nov 6, 2017. 3 Replies

Apparently, Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, has been slumming.  That is to say, she's been talking to Mike Pence [gasp!].  It would seem as though Mike has offered some of his not-so-personal tricks of the trade on how to be a 21st century…Continue

Too true, Carl.

Austria's one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen, but it does have some alarming political tendencies. Sadly, (and not only in Austria) playing on fear and loathing of the other continues to be a highly effective means of persuasion. Add a good dose of denseness among the denizens, and you have a perfect recipe for the very reversal you noted, and far worse.

I couldn't believe my ears the other day when a friend (a friend!) tried to say that the Black Panthers were the equivalent of the KKK. As a character in a bizarre sci-fi novel I'm reading said, "A circle looks at a square and sees a badly made circle."

And now I see Austria is the latest victim to the populist nationalism scourge.  In a time when the world as a whole was inching progressively forward, we've lapsed into a large-scale,180-degree backward tailspin.

Centuries ago the only solution to this problem was uprising, revolution, and war initiated by the masses.  These days the power is in our hands through the democratic ballot process.  Unfortunately the masses are too apathetic and uninformed to yield this power in their favor.  Ironically, we are highly more educated than our ancestors, but still they were motivated to action.  I'm at a loss of how to shake people from our current complacency.

Plinius (Chris) Sorry to learn that the retirement plan isn't working out in The Netherlands, either. It seems we have all been snookered by the laissez-faire capitalism scheme.

It seems that Atheist Nexus is working now.

Loren, that was a problem for me too... before it took half a minute to post a comment, but it is fine now.

That rooster is so cool!

For about a week, A|N was REALLY SLOW ... as in taking between 20 and 40 seconds for a comment to post once the button was pressed.  Night now, everything appears to be working fine for me, but if you are having a problem, PLEASE let me know.

My Nexus experience is fine right now.  There was the awfully slow comment posting problem that occured a couple of weeks ago, but that has been resolved.  I have no current issues.

My A/N site problem is the comment box. It often is a blank, yellow rectangle--no headings. But it works when I hit "Add Comment". Like right now!

I love that rooster Patricia!

Good luck with your pronouns, Ian! Most of the time it's easy, especially when you see how much trans people are at peace with themselves. We were at an all-girls tea this week and it was a big success: no one noticed that Luca is trans, but the best was that she talked, thought and made friends like the happiest woman in the world. Really great to see!

Joan, pages load, but I can't post until I refresh, or I get a page that is strictly plain print, no graphics/pictures, snail paced slowness. Many of the same issues over at atheist universe as well.
