Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

10 Tricks from 46 (Betty Bowers)

Apparently, Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, has been slumming.  That is to say, she's been talking to Mike Pence [gasp!].  It would seem as though Mike has offered some of his not-so-personal tricks of the trade on how to be a 21st century…Continue

Honestly, the title to this piece is badly under-representative of the content.  To be far more accurate, what we have here is Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, going on a rant.  Before you say it ... Say WHAAAA?  Betty Bowers ranting? …Continue

10 Things About Patriotism (Betty Bowers)

It seems as though lately, Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, is evolving into America's Best Patriot.  She has recently been taking some fairly well-aimed shots at a certain Orange Nightmare and his sycophantic hangers-on, regarding the…Continue

Thanks for all of your concers about the recommended evacuation.  I returned home yesterday.

It was stressfull. Winds were predicted at 40-60 MPH during the night so I left when recommended.  My car overheated on the way out of town.  Fortunately my cousin recommened purchising bottled water. I've never purchased bottled water before, but am glad I had it to refill the radiator in my car so it made it back to my house as the temperature guage peaked at high.  I'm glad the engine didn't seaze.    My brother came and picked me up.

I stayed at his house longer than nececassary because I worked on the wiring of his house in attempt to repair a ground fault circuit interruper in his kitchen.  His house was extended from a small one bedroom house to a three bedroom house.  Often when that's done shortcuts are taken with wiring.   I almost had the wiring fixed, before he wore tired of me.

My brother let me borrow his truck. When my car is fixed I'll return his truck and hopefully be able to finish working on the wiring of his house.

When the fire started the winds were blowing, which woke me up. I went outside. It looked like it was snowing from the ash falling. If it were embers I would have awoken all of the neighbors to alert them to evacuate.

My neighbor called me to let me know about the suggested evacuation.

After some of this is sorted out I'm going to check with city and county emergency managers to see why a reverse 911 number wasn't used to assist disabled peoples evacuation.

Apparently, Joan, its better in the long run for recovery, less drugging, getting up quicker, & less bleeding too. I realize they know what they are doing but I am a devout coward.

Yup, got a 5 inch thick chair pad to raise me up. All my seating has to have arms for me to hold onto as I get up.

Patricia,

An  elevating chair or seat  may help you get up from a seated position. I put an advertizement in a local exchange paper and someone gave me on when I was recovering from my surgery.

The link will show you what I'm refereing too: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Vic-2018-Best-Sellers-Best-P...

Patricia, why do they want you awake during hip replacement? That seems counter-intuitive. I suppose you asked the same question.

Comment by Patricia on October 21, 2017 at 12:07am

Nope, I wanna be sleeping through something that major. I hope they let me have headphones & music if they want me awake.

@Chris, I wrote you a personal message and received part of an answer from you but could not find the end of the first sentence or further information.

I/we are concerned about your safety and situation. When you have time, we very much would like to know how you are.

Patricia, it seems you have the needed equipment to help you through the recovery. A toilet riser and a bath bench feel good to me, and I don't have a hip problem (knock on wood!). Getting expert help may be more of a challenge; I hope you find someone you like and who knows what he or she is doing.

I was extremely fortunate in finding help when I cared for Dad his last seven years. Her name was Vicky and a real jewel.

How do you feel about the spinal? Not everyone wants to be awake during surgery. I usually ask if I can watch and the doctors reply, "Sure!" and I wake up after the doctor completes the surgical process. I want to watch a colonoscopy and slip into slumber every time. The doctor allowed me to see the incision after he cut my hands for carpal tunnel surgery. That was interesting to look at the bones, muscles, and ligaments of my hands/wrists.

Ian, undoubtedly, your experience working with people gives you some insight into peoples' pain and recovery styles.

Anything is better than this ongoing agony, Ian, & I will do whatever I'm told to get the best result. 4 or 5 years of torture is already more than enough.

Comment by Patricia on October 20, 2017 at 11:35pm

Yes, I pretty much can Chris.

The freezer, laundry, & cat litter, are downstairs, but Rick can take care of those needs for awhile until his surgery, & then neighbours may help too.

Infection is a possibility, & I am prone to them so have to be extra diligent.
