Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Bible Belt Atheist (New York Times)

The following showed up in my YouTube feed this morning, and I decided to have a look.  Turns out, the New York Times has given us a reasonably even-handed look at a good friend of ours, being one Jerry DeWitt, former bible-thumper and now a pretty…Continue

How would you respond?

So, this morning, I was at my local coffee shop as I am most weekdays between bus runs. I do the editing on my husband's books so I had my laptop with me. My wallpaper is a picture I found online sometime back of a double helix with the word atheist…Continue

The Fake Christian Busybody Show (Andrew Bradley)

It seems as though there was a Gay Pride parade in some town somewhere and a Christian commentator, herein known as The Activist Mommy, apparently got her panties so in a bunch about it that she had to fire up her video camera and record a…Continue

how dogma pollutes discourse (qualiasoup & theramintrees)

  Pilnius,

Atheist Nexus is the first (..and still is) online community I've signed up for. I have never been a member of any internet community before A.N.. So  what urged me to finally let go and sign up for A.N. because of the need to belong to a community. So this is still all new and I dunno if there is or not an online decorum to follow.

"Foreign? Are we THAT different? ;-)"

That question made me think a bit here....and I think we are that different. One of the religious churches goal is to make everybody the same...To born the same, to think the same,..to act the same, and to die the same. Religion was designed to brainwash people and to set in a conformist personality. So far I have not seen A.N. doing that..here we only affirm that there is no God. Everything else we are different... and I think that is amazing. We accept our differences and actually welcome different kinds of people.

Accepting our differences makes us a stronger individual.

 Patricia and Loren,

 Thank you for answers.

I already have shared a few emails with members of A.N., but not personal information. It seems so foreign to share personal stuff thru emails.

Thanks guys.

I just accepted your friendship request Thomas, & private messaged you as well, so yes, you can.

Comment by Loren Miller on November 17, 2017 at 1:19pm

I've done it frequently, Thomas, here and outside of A|N.  If you're "friends" with someone here, you can exchange private emails at your leisure and therewith also trade private email addresses as well.

Is it permitted to correspond personally on A.N. ? and with A.N. members ?

One of these days I'm definitely going to have my DNA tested.  I've been interested in doing it for years.  I know I'm mostly northern European (Scandinavian, English, Scottish, German) but I'd like to know the percentages and also the Neanderthal part.  I have recollections from years ago of family members speculating the possibility of a Jewish ancestor or two (on both sides of my family.)  If true, that would be equally interesting as well.
