Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Guns: Both Sides Now (Betty Bowers)

Oh, NO!  The gun debate has gotten so heated that it has Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, TALKING TO HERSELF!  Apparently, one of her has had a stroke or a serious breakdown in cognitive skills, as she does little more than parrot the NRA's…Continue

To me, this is a big deal (though it may not be to them): two great YouTube video producers have joined forces to deliver one very powerful message on an important subject.  TheraminTrees and QualiaSoup (brothers, I believe) have recently released a…Continue

The myth of religions

Started by Joan Denoo. Last reply by Joan Denoo Feb 16. 3 Replies

The creation myth of civilizations instructs men to dominate, to conquer, to go forth and multiply. No reasonable person would pay attention to such a god. No hunter-gatherer receives such a senseless message from wise elders. However, that idea…Continue

That's a long trip, Randall. I'm glad you enjoyed it. How's Honduras in general?

The Atheist Pig is pretty sharp.

Excellent cartoon Bertold!

Yeah, I though so too, Loren.

Reading an interesting book titled How to Fix the Future by Andrew Keen, author of The Internet Is Not the Answer. In it he mentions a German browser called Cliqz. He says:

  • Created by Jean-Paul Schmetz, the former chief scientist at Burda, Cliqz is an innovative combination of search engine and internet browser, built on "privacy by design" principles. It's been engineered or, perhaps more exactly, reengineered, as the anti-Google--an internet browser with an inbuilt search engine designed in such a way that it will never collect or sell its users' data.

I just installed it and so far it's great. Will probably remove Chrome from my devices.

Bertold, it seems to me lately that all Christian apologists can do is either condescend or make threats of hell, and I've had a bellyful of both.  One of these days, Winston (The Atheist Pig) is going to confront his coworker with her own pattern of behavior ... and I can only hope that the last panel of that cartoon shows her head exploding.

And Patricia, your pic and Tommy Lee Jones' "Seriously?!?" look on his face is priceless!

Well, if you ever get the chance, go see the Mayan ruins in Copan, Honduras. Pretty amazing. However, getting there is a problem. The roads are horrific. But they ARE working on them.

I had a nice "weekend" being with my oldest daughter and her kids. (We all went to the ruins--over 7 hours in the car one way!)

Agreed, Ian, & it has to be huge & on-going.

One of the obvious questions, Patricia. One that US politicians and their NRA supporters don't want to answer. I'm encouraged by reports that teachers and students are organising walk-outs. Change comes from below, when enough people begin to demand it.
