Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

11 "unanswerable" questions for atheists - answered (Aron Ra)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Tom Sarbeck Jun 6. 1 Reply

If you spend any time around YouTube and have any history of looking at atheist material (or even theist material!), you will inevitably run into: "XX Questions Atheists Can't Answer."  These are occasionally followed by: "XX Questions Atheists…Continue

worshipping narcissists (qualiasoup & theramintrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Idaho Spud Jun 3. 1 Reply

They're all around us: people who perceive the world as revolving around them and will go to considerable lengths to make it so: narcissists.  Such beings have been with humanity, I suspect, since humanity emerged from the gene pool.  Even worse,…Continue

appropriating morality (TheraminTrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Joan Denoo May 1. 7 Replies

We've all heard the claim: "Human morality comes from god."  And we've all seen for ourselves what Yahweh's "morality" looks like, from condemnations of homosexuality and the treatment of women as chattel to inexplicable sanctions against the eating…Continue

Bible Belt Atheist (New York Times)

The following showed up in my YouTube feed this morning, and I decided to have a look.  Turns out, the New York Times has given us a reasonably even-handed look at a good friend of ours, being one Jerry DeWitt, former bible-thumper and now a pretty…Continue

How would you respond?

So, this morning, I was at my local coffee shop as I am most weekdays between bus runs. I do the editing on my husband's books so I had my laptop with me. My wallpaper is a picture I found online sometime back of a double helix with the word atheist…Continue

Just more alarming news in the US.

Sounds good Ian.

For the past week I've been back in full-time employment under a government scheme called 'senior job'. It's been recognised that people over 50 have trouble finding work so my local authority/municipality has to employ me until I reach the age (63) when I can take early retirement. I'm now an assistant caretaker, which is a nice way of saying minimum wage odd-job man. Actually, I like it. No responsiblity at all and I just have to do whatever there is to be done. So far I've been out in the fresh air weeding some paved areas until noon and then odd bits and pieces indoors in the afternoon when the weather's too hot. The people I work with are very friendly and that makes a big difference in a job. Working also boosts my self-discipline. I can't put off chores at home until tomorrow or the next day any more, something I had slipped into after 2 years unemployed. There's not much time for introspection either, something that I know leads to bouts of depression. All in all, life's good just now.

I'm not sure the sitting president* is capable of picking his nose. The Heritage Foundation will make the pick and he'll inflict it on the world.

Bertold, does that mean that the sitting president can pick a new judge? Oh dear!

New computer arrived dead! Ach, Plinius!

Thanks for the good news about Montreal, Patricia. A hint of sanity is always welcome.

Pleased to see you Plinius! Was wondering if it was a computer issue.

Rick will be flying out to Victoria on July 3rd, pre-op the 4th, & surgery the 5th. His brother will meet him there on the 4th so he won't be alone.

Not being able to travel is a bit upsetting to say the least, but I couldn't handle the luggage for us even if I could..

I'm glad you're all there! After the crash of my pc on June 7th I waited for the new one - which arrived dead... The next one will perhaps arrive next week if I'm lucky. Today I found some time to surf on Luca's laptop. Tomorrow my last lesson of the season - very strange to stop after teaching at that location for 27 years.

patricia, good luck with Rick's operation and your own, of course! Waving to you all!

Joan, we had one on Fox Mountain right behind us, but they got it looked after right away. We watched the planes from the back windows. Nothing else too nearby yet, but yesterdays electrical storm started 98 new fires. We've had over 300 so far this season.

Rick is having his surgery July 5th, & he needs recovery time before worrying about evacuation. My surgeon wants me to have my other hip done within a couple of months, & that recovery is 6 months.

I still maintain these climate change deniers should have to fight some of these wildfires from April, to October!
