Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Never let it be said that Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, is anything less than up to date with the state of the art as it comes to the modern household.  However, as a discriminating conservative Christian, Betty would never tolerate…Continue

New Rule: Church and Destroy (Real Time with Bill Maher - HBO)

Bill Maher is an atheist [whoa, shock and amazement!].  He is also a dedicated opponent of Donald Trump and anyone who would support the man or his goals ... and that includes ol' Yahweh, himself!  As it turns out, there is a substantial correlation…Continue

concealing abuse (TheraminTrees)

We think of institutionalized child abuse and for many of us, the natural reaction is to think of the Catholic Church. Certainly, their guilt is beyond question, even as the headlines of the Boston Globe early in 2002 and the more recent news…Continue

Liberal Redneck - Climate Change the Game (Trae Crowder)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Ruth Anthony-Gardner Sep 20. 2 Replies

Trae Crowder isn't just about atheism.  He has a deep and abiding concern about what's going on with this planet's climate and the all-too-probable catastrophe we face from a fundamental change in weather patterns.  That said, Trae is thinking about…Continue

Men who challenge men to stop violence

Many men join in the effort to reduce violence against women and children and other men. He speaks of the need to place responsibility on men instead of focusing on women to stop violence. He offers a breath of fresh air, as do so many of the men on…Continue

Bert,  the orange one can apparently do whatever he pleases. I'm so sick of the do nothing send. This taking the high road has become bullshit . Like Al Franken stepping down over damned photos that were decades old. We needed him. But Sanford continues to hike the Appalachian trail. I think it's way past time to fight fire with fire.

We have a wannabe dictator in the white house and dems keep kissing ass.  Don't even get me started on McConnell. He's a POS.

Ellison's deliciously acid reviews of tv shows ["The Glass Teat"] were a great treat back in the day. The only thing that compares is Bill Warren's "Keep Watching the Skies," articulate and cutting reviews of every sci-fi flick from the 50s through the early 60s.

I just learned that Harlan Ellison is gone.  I will admit that I never picked up a book or short story of his, but his touch on J. Michael Straczynski's Babylon 5 is undeniable.  Interestingly, I found the Cleveland Plain Dealer's obituary of Ellison a great deal more colorful than that of the New York Times, but both are included here.

Thanks guys. I'm partially back. Storms and the occasional  tornado keep knocking signal out. A tornado actually touched down about six miles from here. It did a lot of damage to the trees but only took the roofs off half a dozen homes.

I heard some say  god protected them. If that's true who sent the tornado  ??

Yes, Joan, I'm very relieved Rick won't be alone. His brother is in Surrey so he just has to grab the ferry across to Victoria. Rick was able to qualify for the free medical flight there & back again, so he doesn't have the 14 hour bus tip to contend with.

Hahahaha......we've got 2 sets of neighbours who ain't gonna lemmee git away with nuthin.....

Seriously, they will check on me & I can even ask for someone to come over at bath time so I have someone around if I fall. This left hip has become so bad, I can hardly move!

Patricia, thanks for the update. I am pleased to learn that his brother will be with him.

How are you doing? Do you have someone checking on you during this period of Rick's surgery & recovery?

Yeah, Bert. You mentioned lately how fucked we all are. And I’m about to believe you.

Just more alarming news in the US.

Sounds good Ian.

For the past week I've been back in full-time employment under a government scheme called 'senior job'. It's been recognised that people over 50 have trouble finding work so my local authority/municipality has to employ me until I reach the age (63) when I can take early retirement. I'm now an assistant caretaker, which is a nice way of saying minimum wage odd-job man. Actually, I like it. No responsiblity at all and I just have to do whatever there is to be done. So far I've been out in the fresh air weeding some paved areas until noon and then odd bits and pieces indoors in the afternoon when the weather's too hot. The people I work with are very friendly and that makes a big difference in a job. Working also boosts my self-discipline. I can't put off chores at home until tomorrow or the next day any more, something I had slipped into after 2 years unemployed. There's not much time for introspection either, something that I know leads to bouts of depression. All in all, life's good just now.
