Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

New Rule: Church and Destroy (Real Time with Bill Maher - HBO)

Bill Maher is an atheist [whoa, shock and amazement!].  He is also a dedicated opponent of Donald Trump and anyone who would support the man or his goals ... and that includes ol' Yahweh, himself!  As it turns out, there is a substantial correlation…Continue

concealing abuse (TheraminTrees)

We think of institutionalized child abuse and for many of us, the natural reaction is to think of the Catholic Church. Certainly, their guilt is beyond question, even as the headlines of the Boston Globe early in 2002 and the more recent news…Continue

Liberal Redneck - Climate Change the Game (Trae Crowder)

Trae Crowder isn't just about atheism.  He has a deep and abiding concern about what's going on with this planet's climate and the all-too-probable catastrophe we face from a fundamental change in weather patterns.  That said, Trae is thinking about…Continue

Men who challenge men to stop violence

Many men join in the effort to reduce violence against women and children and other men. He speaks of the need to place responsibility on men instead of focusing on women to stop violence. He offers a breath of fresh air, as do so many of the men on…Continue

We've had quite a few rainy days so far, but we're still in a drought. I heard last year that it would have to rain all day every day for 3 years to repair our forests.....& we all know that ain't gonna happen. Then there's the lighting strikes that are very dangerous for all of it.

The forest is verdant green from all the rain and the grass looks like normal Ireland's hillsides. The heat has set in and things quickly dry out because of the sandy soil. We all keep watchful eyes on burning because the drying grasses make an excellent tender for the surrounding forests. Even with all the rain, the forests look stressed from an earlier drought.

We had terrible downpours a week or so ago. I thought the sand and gravel would end up in the creek in the valley. This glaciated soil does not hold water. The garden plots that I enriched last year in raised beds grow healthy weeds; I haven't planted them. Just have not been up to it. The greenhouse is all I can manage.

Do you have to worry about fires?

The same here. Anyone join me in a raindance?

The predicted rain hasn't turned up yet except for the island of Bornholm so now there's a ban on almost everything including barbecues, a summer favourite for many. Drinking water in DK comes direct from the ground but hasn't been affected although there's a ban on watering crops near large cities. There might be some isolated, heavy showers in the coming week but we'll have to wait and see. It will take a lot of water to get things back to normal.

I do similar things, Kathy. Water shouldn't be wasted.

Water rations or not I use water that I've washed vegetbles in,  for example,  to water the compost or plants.

I found it surprising as well. The surgeon figured I'd need the left one done within a year, & I'd thought I'd have more than the 6 months from December's x-ray, but the hip & June's x-ray had other ideas I guess.

Comment by Ruth Anthony-Gardner on July 10, 2018 at 10:15pm

Wow, Patricia, I didn't even know hips could deteriorate that fast.

Plinius, your apartment sounds quite interesting. Surely from that location you get a good view and lots of light.

Drought in Denmark and flooding in Japan. <head spinning>

Joan, our apartment is built on the roof of an old bank building. Our space consists of two floors and a piece of the old roof where we made our garden in big tubs. We use tap water or grey water - if possible - to water the plants and carrying water is only from the kitchen to the garden on the same floor. Water is not yet rationed here but we were asked not to spray gardens or wash cars.
