Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Sadly, Ian, you have hit on a terrible fact, women who reach the highest level in politics and leadership of organizations climb the same ladder as men. There is not a new approach to leadership with women of my age a maybe two generations younger.

I see my girls as leaders and they can be corrupted, taking the known path instead of imaging and creating an entirely different sort of politics.

Perhaps you are on to something about the younger generation coming into sight. I like the self-confidence and vision that emerged this past election.

Sorry to be negative but I've yet to be convinced about women and power. That's probably the result of years spent living in the reign of M Thatcher but I've also seen May, Palin, hangers-on like Huckerbee-Sanders and Fox tv presenters etc. The extreme nationalists in Denmark have been led by a woman for years. It seems that women who rise to the top in the present political system and climate are products of that system. There is hope in the new, younger generation if they don't get absorbed into the ruling elite. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

How did I find such wise friends as I find here? Thanks, Plinius and Tom.

Joan, instead of feeling guilt or shame at the way America bullies other nations, get accustomed to the idea that politics attracts bullies.

The bullying I experienced in Arizona resulted in a period of cynicism. In time, after swinging like a pendulum between idealiam and cynicism, I realized that idealism and cynicism are admissions of powerlessness.

People without power say they can’t fight city hall. People with power say thay can fight city hall, but might add that they don’t want to do it today.

I hope you're right, Joan! I think that most women have less affinity with stupid status things and more affinity with practical measures that help.

Tom, I think women will help pull this nation out of the low-life we have become. I feel guilt and shame because of the ways our nation bullies other nations and gets away with it. A good woman with a strong determination to clean house cannot be stopped.

I hear you ask, "What is good?" I don't know; I do know what is bad, unhealthy, disgusting!

I worked with Spokane, Colville, and Kalispell Native American women when I taught at Community College and a strange thing happened over and over. Some of these women told me that the men had been overwhelmed by the racism of whites against Natives as women had not. Native women had a sense of ownership and I didn't understand what they meant. They told me they owned the hearths of their tribes. What does that mean? The women owned the stones upon which women prepared the family meals. They called that the hearthstone, even if it wasn't a stone, it was a place of nourishment. Their word for it was not "hearthstone" but that is the way they translated the meaning of the place where women performed these tasks.

Native American women took back their historical leadership role that had been forced out of their culture by colonization.

"The ascent to political power is a final, formal recognition of the role of indigenous women. It reconnects Native voters to their peoples’ historic respect of all feminine life sources, including Mother Earth. Imagine the world that sort of reverence and balance will create."

Two Native American women are headed to Congress. This is why it matters.

Joan, that’s a tall order and we men have failed. Aside from several women elected last year to the US House of Representatives, are there women who will succeed?

The whole world becomes more chaotic with lives lost, communities disoriented, cultures fighting, and for what? We need a leader who unites, who finds ways to solve problems, and build trust. It is unbelievable how quickly turbulence overwhelms us. Weapons can destroy life as we know it and the Bully reigns without resistance. We can do better! We can be better.

  • Good leaders inspire others, making paths for others.
  • Smart leaders teach and learn, know what they know, know what they don't know, and welcome diversity.
  • Wise leaders innovate, going down untraveled paths.
  • High-quality leaders humbly pay attention to evidence.
  • Compassionate leaders listen to people.
  • Brave leaders strike a balance, weighing many options.
  • Strong leaders collaborate with others.

I still think 'buffoon' is the best word for him. The problem is that he's in a position that makes him harmful and dangerous.
