Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Evangelicals Breaking Up with Jesus (Betty Bowers)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Grinning Cat May 28. 10 Replies

Has evangelical Christianity lost sight of Christ?  Seems to me that there are a whole lot of evangelical Christians who are presuming to represent Jesus by not representing him or misrepresenting him or – let's be honest here – talking out of their…Continue

So, this morning, I was at my local coffee shop as I am most weekdays between bus runs. I do the editing on my husband's books so I had my laptop with me. My wallpaper is a picture I found online sometime back of a double helix with the word atheist…Continue

Men who challenge men to stop violence

Many men join in the effort to reduce violence against women and children and other men. He speaks of the need to place responsibility on men instead of focusing on women to stop violence. He offers a breath of fresh air, as do so many of the men on…Continue

The following showed up this morning in my YouTube daily feed, and I have to say, it just charmed the socks off of me.  This is what animation really can do in the hands of a creative and skilled team.  Really, it's what animation has done for darn…Continue

It just exchanges one addiction for another. We are never taught to rely on ourselves for anything, & its ridiculous.

Patricia, I share the atheist nurse's fights against mandatory AA. The research clearly reflects bias on the part of those who study the disease.

"In any other area of medicine, if your doctor told you that the cure for your disease involved surrendering to a “higher power,” praying to have your “defects of character” lifted, and accepting your “powerlessness,” as outlined in the original 12 steps, you’d probably seek a second opinion.

Tom, your tooth story gave me quite a laugh.

I dread the current GOP push to eliminate the US postal service.

Very bad service, and who thinks of people who are disabled or have other difficulties? Here the post delivery is still working, but the people on the job are underpaid and overworked. They often drop packets for the whole building at my flat to save time.

We no longer have home mail delivery, & must go to the community mailboxes to collect, so we have an unpaid job we did not apply for, nor were hired for, but were told we have, like it or not, & then postal rates keep increasing.

This includes doing it on winter's snowy/icy streets that the city has chosen not to clear very often....to cut down on expenses. Some neighbours have ATV's with a front blade who look after a lot of the street/sidewalks. I say we give our tax money to them.

Self checkout, ergo an employee discount?

Of course! Hiring people to do checkout let store owners take time off to do nothing and reduced theft by customers, and the owners add those employees’ salaries to the prices they make me pay.

I now do the checkout and a dingus at the door sounds an alarm when I don’t check an item out before I leave with it!

Discount, si!

And something else. I gave all but 2 or 3 years of my life to growing, nourishing, testing and cleaning a tooth, so I offered to sell it to the dentist who took it out.

He refused to pay, and even charged me an outrageous amount for disposing of it!

We consumers have to organize to protect our interests.

It's happening more and more that we have to do everything ourselves, almost without seeing a human being. I saw that recently on my last trip abroad at airports. There isn't a check-in counter or staff at the baggage drop point. All automated with scanners and screens. Supermarkets will be the same soon. A light-hearted look at that:

I remember my days at university. Free education and even student grants to pay for upkeep. That doesn't exist in Britain any more. It still does in Denmark.
