Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

bending truth, or "We Can All Be Manipulated" (TheraminTrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Grinning Cat Jul 30. 42 Replies

The following is one of TheraminTrees' most thorough-going pieces, wherein he looks at the process and techniques whereby a "religious" organization (which will sound VERY familiar to most of us, once introductions are made!) takes a person who…Continue

Evangelicals Breaking Up with Jesus (Betty Bowers)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Grinning Cat May 28. 10 Replies

Has evangelical Christianity lost sight of Christ?  Seems to me that there are a whole lot of evangelical Christians who are presuming to represent Jesus by not representing him or misrepresenting him or – let's be honest here – talking out of their…Continue

What does Atheist Nexus offer to people who find it on the web.

Info about a life free of religion and support for people who want a life free of religion.

Rather than post an essay here, I will risk starting a discussion I hope will win interest.

I wonder why so many really good participants left A/N and miss them. Barbara is one. She wore herself out with trying to do too much and left the gardening group; I wish she had resumed in this group. Daniel wanted a gentler group and I can see his point.

People leave without telling us why they make the decision to leave. Are we too political? Too focused on cursing god and religion? Too issues oriented? Too ????

I like participating because I like each one who joins with us. The trips, the ideas, the sharing gives me hope that there will be a tomorrow.

I especially like the discussions of the issues. I always learn something from them. I don't like what I read, but I would rather know what happens, the pros and cons, the search for remedies.

Ruth offers a treasure trove of events about which I want to know.

Each one of you members feels like family to me. Please don't leave without saying "goodbye!"

Randy, we are on the west slope of the Rockies, getting water runoff that produces grand aquafers. Spokane sits on top of it and we benefit by the underground water source. Where I live now, Newport, 50 miles north of Spokane, does not benefit as much by the Rocky Mt. watershed, yet we have small mountains that feed the soil where I live. We have more dry spots and it is difficult to find a water table here. This ground is at risk for drought if we don't get a good snowpack.

As you know, we live on top of a huge sand dune created by the last Ice Age. I water the lawn twice a day for very short spurts. The water percolates away leaving dry sand behind. A pristine lawn is preferable because of providing a fire barrier.

There was a forest fire 6-miles to our west; the prevailing winds come from the west. I watered the lawn and trees, they washed the metal roof of any fir needles, we brought out the chemical spray that they would use if the fire came on our property. They filled the Fire District's water truck. The state or federal government brought in their firefighters, and the fire is out, however, we keep on the lookout for flare-ups.

Spud, that black booted dog is Michelle's and he is super hyperactive, never stops running. He knocks me down all the time and sometimes I have to crawl opn my hands and knees to get to a chair or porch so that I can get up. Zeek is terrible for Larry because he is crippled from childhood polio, leaving him with one leg 2" shorter than the other.
We constantly work with Zeek to get him to stop bowling us over, but Zeek is Zeek. He should not be on this place. However, even Larry loves that damned dog, as do I.

Not me, Randall. We had some issues with insurance companies, a court case about an allowance - we've worked like mad to get things right.

I agree, Tom. Perhaps members have the summer time lethargy.

I've been guilty of posting less, Tom. But no solutions here for reinvigorating AN.
