Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

AOC Flips the Religious Freedom Argument on Its Head (NowThis)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Loren Miller yesterday. 6 Replies

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may not be an atheist, but as it comes to the issue of State / Church separation, she has just surprised the daylights out of me (most pleasantly!) with a very powerful statement she has recently made regarding the behavior…Continue

Viruses Don't Watch FoxNews (Betty Bowers)

The above is the kind of headline which would likely send the Orange Nightmare into a royal hissy-fit ... but then, in addition to all the line-items outlined in the following video, viruses don't read, either!  Yes, I'm afraid that, once again,…Continue

The following is one of TheraminTrees' most thorough-going pieces, wherein he looks at the process and techniques whereby a "religious" organization (which will sound VERY familiar to most of us, once introductions are made!) takes a person who…Continue

Australia's new year is getting an awful start. Even this may not shift the country's embrace of coal. In the US, entire towns can disappear and residents don't change their climate denial. I read that a community's response to such a disaster depends upon the presence of activist organizations and how their news frames events.

Randall, I have similar conflicted feelings about the new year.

Happy New Year to all, anyway.

Hope for the best and prepare for the worst, Randall...

I hope you all have a great year!

Normally, I would say "Thank goodness 2019 is over". But 2020 looks even worse, what with another year of our slime ball president and election news (overkill). I'll be sticking my head in the sand more than ever. Think positive, right?!

Here's wishing all my AN friends a wonderful year.

Ian, thanks for sharing your holiday with us. "Granddad" must make you feel special! I love hearing "Grandma" and "Great-grandma."

How were your holidays? I had a very good couple of days with my daughter, her family and inlaws. My grandson can now remember that I'm 'gandad' which was the best present of all. He's a big Peppa Pig fan.

Thanks for the invite, Randall, but I think I'll stay home..

Except for a high cholesterol reading (250), my annual blood test and doctor visit was good. No immediate concerns, anyway. I'm defying the doctor's recommendations that I have a flu shot and have a colonoscopy. We "argued" a bit about the pros and cons of having either. When I told him I was taking niacin tablets, he very strongly told me to STOP immediately! I won't go into details why, but I got the message.

Today, my sister is coming for a "celebration" dinner of ham, sweet potatoes, green beans, scalloped corn, spinach salad and pecan pie. We're celebrating all good end-of-the-year and beginning-of-the-new year things. You are all welcome to join us!

Thank you for the birthday greetings, friends.

A happy solstice to one and all.
