Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Evangelicals Unmasked (Betty Bowers)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Grinning Cat May 26. 4 Replies

After roughly two months of "shelter-in-place," it would seem that evangelical Christians are champing at the bit to get back to their money-making-machines churches, because empty pews mean empty collection plates, which means no moolah in pastors'…Continue

Never let it be said that Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, is a scofflaw as it comes to the whole "shelter-in-place" order ... ESPECIALLY when she has such a FABULOUS place to shelter in!  Problem is, she sees way too many other…Continue

Amen to what has been said about Trump here. I hate him so much, that I refuse to look or listen to him. He makes me ill.

State parks in Indiana are still open, but they are being swamped with people seeking some place to go. They'll soon close, I'm sure.

I think Covid-19 will be with us until a vaccine is developed and administered worldwide, just as happened with diseases that kill throughout human history.

Patricia, life will be a new normal. Keep in mind, "normal" is not the same as "healthy!" The world you and I grew up in can not function as "healthy." We had remnants of racism, and sexism continued unchallenged until the "Me Too" movement caused many to wake up to the damage that sexism caused. If we have a new normal, perhaps we can make it a more healthy one.

What would a new healthy normal be for you?

I want to live in a world where race is celebrated, including colors, regalia, food, dance, music, and traditions have value.

I want to speak my mind and be able to stand up against ridicule and criticism, and I want the males and females of my family to have those skills, as well.

I want to live in a world without violence; people learn the skills of communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and management of emotions.

I want to live in a town, county, state, and nation that values individual rights, and corporations do not have the rights of a person.

I want to live in a government that serves the needs of people, empowering the able while caring for those unable to care for themselves.

I want medical care for all citizens or not because sickness and disabilities impact us all.

OOPPSS too many words!

Celandine is very pleasant for the eyes and the first plant that flowers in the woods, a sure sign of Spring.

Yes, Joan the graph is very much the same as on the news here. There weren't many cases in mid.March but presumably the infection was spreading and incubating at that point. Caution is still required to restrict a new upsurge. State TV's doctor says that most of us are going to catch it at some point but that the health service won't be overwhelmed. Vaccinations against pneumonia are being made available for over-65s and those in vulnerable groups as it's oppotunistic lung infections that are the killers when people are weakened by C19.

Patricia, that's a good description of the narcissistic, little baby.

Which is why I think life will never be ''normal'' for we seniors again.

A description of a sad nutcase, Patricia.

Congrars, DK! Here it's about the same, the infection curve is flattening! We can change that by abandoning the restrictions, but we won't do that, I read that we'll have Covid 19 with us for years....

From Kevin Drum
I don’t suppose anyone is in the mood to hear this, but have you noticed that Donald Trump hasn’t seized more power during the coronavirus emergency even though it gives him a perfect excuse to do so? In fact, if anything, he’s been eager to push authority down onto the states and away from the federal government.
This shouldn’t surprise anyone. It’s an odd thing, but Trump has never been hungry for power. On the contrary, he’s afraid of power because he’s afraid of being truly responsible for anything. He much prefers to delegate and blame.
If not power, what then? Trump is driven by a desire for attention and praise—and its flip side, revenge against those who malign him. He doesn’t care one way or another who’s in charge of things. He just wants all the credit.
This is why, in the end, he’s neither an autocrat nor an authoritarian. He’s just a sad little man who craves approval but has never gotten it.

Ian, hopefully, and thankfully DK may have reached the peak of infections. I am interested to see if the models correctly describe the progress.
