Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

The following is one of TheraminTrees' most thorough-going pieces, wherein he looks at the process and techniques whereby a "religious" organization (which will sound VERY familiar to most of us, once introductions are made!) takes a person who…Continue

Evangelicals Breaking Up with Jesus (Betty Bowers)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Grinning Cat May 28. 10 Replies

Has evangelical Christianity lost sight of Christ?  Seems to me that there are a whole lot of evangelical Christians who are presuming to represent Jesus by not representing him or misrepresenting him or – let's be honest here – talking out of their…Continue

Plinius, your refreshing news about discovering the role depression played in your lives and how you two were able to discover the cause and build a healthier, happy lives, gives one hope.

Thanks Ian! And you always react in a calm and empathic way - as far as I can see from here - so people find it easy to trust you.

I've been to the cinema to see 'Judy'. It might be a rather sentimental portrayal of Judy Garland, I don't know but the flashbacks showing Louis Mayer feeding a 15 year old slimming tablets were horrible. Hollywood was shown as a predatory and parasitic industry that was prepared to use and discard human beings in the endless pursuit of money.

A little suprise too. A new aquaintance I was with came out as transexual. 'He' still has to be male at work but is she to the rest of the world. I'd only met Renee once before for a few minutes so I think that was brave.

Then it wouldn't be a joke.

LOL, Patricia. You could call it "Ella's Elegant Salmon" or some such.

Another good one, Patricia! The people in my course loved the last ones!

My wife and I run a small restaurant where we often name our specials after our employees, dishes like “Sally's Chicken” after our maitre d who gave us the recipe, and “Rod’s Ribs” after a waiter who had his personal style of barbecue.

One evening after rereading the menu, I broke with this tradition and changed the description of the special we had named after our chef.

Despite her skills and excellent reputation, somehow I didn’t think an entrée named “Salmon Ella” would go over big with our customers.

Yes, over 53 years.
