Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

We've all heard the claim: "Human morality comes from god."  And we've all seen for ourselves what Yahweh's "morality" looks like, from condemnations of homosexuality and the treatment of women as chattel to inexplicable sanctions against the eating…Continue

Joan, that is such sad news. My condolences to you. Your family is a loving one and all of you will care for each other in this very hard situation. Being with a loved one at the end and being able to say goodbye helps, I know. And yes, the memories and love live on.

Joan, thank but... the point of my statment is no one should ever grow up feeling unwanted or alone, and um, I'm not sure how to put it. I think that giving someone a home, making them feel wanted and loved is the greatest gift anyone could have ever received. I would imagine that anyone being on the receiving end of your kindness would feel the same way. I know its a hard situation so this might not be the best time but, as far as I'm concerned that makes you and everyone in your family hero's

Sad news, Joan, I'm so sorry for your loss. And I'm very happy how you all stayed with Cary and helped him through the weeks.

Take good care of yourself now! It's very hard to survive your child - I've seen that in my parents-in-law - but I know you can work it out with the help of your special family. Cary will be remembered here, from your stories and from your deep love for him shining through.

Joan, sorry I'm late. A bit out of touch.

My deepest concern. It seems the whole family came together well, supporting Cary's choice. Hugs.

BenGee, I recognized from your first comment that you have unhappy memories of your family. It is an honor to include you in our family. This is a safe place to discuss, disagree, and discover our world. The only requirement of Atheist Nexus is that you do not find evidence of god.

Randy, one more thought. Yes! grandparents exist "to work on table manners, however. That's what grandparents do!"

Joan, I've always thought that adoption was the best way to go. Passing on my mind, my memories, my life and sharing that is more important than passing on my genes, and it doesn't matter if you're sharing that with someone who has your gene's its precious.

Now I kinda wanna have a child, mostly though because my family taught me that I was inferior that my genes weren't worth passing on, which may be partially to blame for why I think adoption is so awesome (they tried to say I was mentally disabled my entire life). So my desire to have a kid if I can now is just a big fuck you to  everyone who tried to tell me I was genetic garbage. Though lol first i'll have to find a girl who likes me enough to make a kid with me and start a family. Even if I have a child with a girl I'd also adopt without hesitation. NO child EVER deserves to feel unwanted, you don't have to be an orphan to learn that, and EVERY child with a loving parent biological or otherwise I think is quite affected by that love.

Carl, as always, I feel your friendship as tho we had met in person. Thank you.

Bertold, some say that an adopted child is not as precious as a genetically born child. NONSENSE. Cary was as loved by all family members and we all grieve his death and value our memories of him. This pain is so deep because of him, not because of his genetics.

The sweetness of his care for me is priceless to me and to our family, the ideas and times we shared, the joys and sorrows were as real to us those who have the same blood lines.

Yes, "outliving a child" is the hardest thing I ever experienced.

Thank you for your comments, they comfort and empower me.
