Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

degrading love — part one (TheraminTrees)

Love is by many considered among the highest of positive emotions.  Yet when love of the type offered by deities is examined, something seems to go seriously wrong.  The love of Yahweh seems less a gift than a demand, not so much beneficence as a…Continue

Ian, I like Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale" too. Hits a little too close to reality. Makes me shudder to think of what a society could become if there were not energies forcing radicalism back to center.

I have not read Ann Radcliffe's "Mysteries of Udolpho".

Nice one, CLAWS. Stealing.

So that's what American Smarties look like. In Britain they're the same thing as M&Ms.

Just finished Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale", future fiction where the U.S. has become a patriarchal theocracy and a polluted wreck. Damn good book. Before that, Ann Radcliffe's "Mysteries of Udolpho", one of the Gothic classics. Overlong and overwritten but still a pleasure. And all the "supernatural" events have logical explanations.

C.L.A.W.S.  "God hates facts" fits perfectly. Thanks. Reposting.

Mindy, the thought of the family working together as a team to help your daughter reach her goals just feels very good to me. That sense of people pulling together for a common coal is what being family is about.

Randal, such good news about your family and the ways you play together. Sounds like a great time. Will there be photos?

Chris, that is a good idea. If the card doesn't change, check and see if everything is OK.

Sorry the weather made trick-or-treating in Chicago a downer, Flying Atheist. We were more lucky in PA.

Love the "God hates facts" sign and the repo comic.

The weather in Chicago on Halloween was very nasty.  High winds, rain and some sleet/snow flurries.  Not one trick-or-treater came to my door for the Smarties I had ready for them.

Smarties are made with Dextrose instead of sugar, so I don't feel so bad having the whole bag for myself.  Yeah, that's my rationale,

Also, always purchase Halloween candy that you like.

Good one Cat Lover.  That's a keeper.

Joan, FB is where I took it from. And it's not Danish, as far as I know.

Mindy and Randall, how lovely.

Here's one for all of you in the U.S.
