Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

appropriating morality (TheraminTrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Joan Denoo May 1. 7 Replies

We've all heard the claim: "Human morality comes from god."  And we've all seen for ourselves what Yahweh's "morality" looks like, from condemnations of homosexuality and the treatment of women as chattel to inexplicable sanctions against the eating…Continue

The following showed up in my YouTube feed this morning, and I decided to have a look.  Turns out, the New York Times has given us a reasonably even-handed look at a good friend of ours, being one Jerry DeWitt, former bible-thumper and now a pretty…Continue

So, this morning, I was at my local coffee shop as I am most weekdays between bus runs. I do the editing on my husband's books so I had my laptop with me. My wallpaper is a picture I found online sometime back of a double helix with the word atheist…Continue

The Fake Christian Busybody Show (Andrew Bradley)

It seems as though there was a Gay Pride parade in some town somewhere and a Christian commentator, herein known as The Activist Mommy, apparently got her panties so in a bunch about it that she had to fire up her video camera and record a…Continue

Bernie hits all the right notes about economic and social conditions. I don't like his stand on Israel. I will vote for Bernie because of his stand on socialism ... I think he would work to implement a social democracy. He would have little success with the present congress. If someone appears who has those values and does support the rights of both Israel and Palestine to have sovereignty over their lives, then I will reconsider. I do not support a one state solution because I don't think it would ever work. Zionists are just as brutal as Palestinians and I do not see peace coming from that option.

None of the present candidates for POTUS will get my vote, especially with the Supreme Court judges that might be replaced.

Carl, that is sooo funny!! And Golden nods right on the beat!

I'll have to look up Simeon ten Holt. Hope you're doing well.

Chris, I just finished listening to the video of piano music by Simeon ten Holt.  It was great background music while I sipped coffee and read the morning news.

Ian, I see you have a close election coming up between conservatives and the ruling Social Democrats.  Reuters news.  I didn't realize Greenland (and the Faroe Islands) had representation in your Parliament.

Yes, Randy, Jeb Bush is crazy boring.  All the other Republican candidates are just plain crazy.  And even more may still throw their hat in the ring.  Still waiting to hear from Jindal and Trump.  LOL

I'm already tired of hearing Bernie's tirade, but I suppose he must keep pounding away until everybody gets his message. And is it just me, or is Jeb Bush the most boring person on earth? Yawn. It's going to be a long year and a half.

I can't suggest a Dowland song for you Joan, I think they don't match your mood.

I thought I'd seen that dog in Naples, Ian! The mosaics were fantastic!

Joan, I grew up with baroque music - Bach in church - like many people, but I discovered so many other styles. When vinyl was sold for the price of old paper, we made a collection of music that was new to us, from everywhere, old and new, and it still delights us. This is one of my favorites: minimal music by Simeon ten Holt.

Felaine, I agree, Sanders is more honest and capable than Mrs. "Let's-Invade-Iraq Clinton".

 Let's-Invade-Iraq Clinton.
