Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Think Goodwill Industries does well by the poor?  Fact is, they do WAY BETTER for themselves, to the point where America's Best Christian, Betty Bowers, thinks they're ripping off the christian playbook a bit too well!  Have a look for yourself:…Continue

Let's not define ourselves or others by our worst behaviors

Started by Ruth Anthony-Gardner. Last reply by Dominique Lutz Apr 16. 6 Replies

My take on the recent melt down at Hang With Friends, of which I missed part, is that some of us were tripped up by a habit of thought. It's something we learn growing up, and use without realizing how much pain it can generate -  failing to…Continue

Booklover that sounds so wonderful that you are living debt free and paid off your house already. Wow - Congrats.

More people should live like you do. Less worry and stress.

oooh I love Talk Like a Pirate Day.

For the video game I am playing Star Trek Online I set up an event for my Fleet called Talk like a Pirate day to celebrate today.

How is everyone doing?

Someone on Instructables celebrated Pi day (3/14) with a Pi-Rat pie: a solid chocolate rat, with pi pirate hat and hook, bursting out of a chocolate chip cookie pie.

Pastafarians would doubtless hold this day in high regard!

Still, we should remember that Treasure Island and movies have romanticized and distorted what is in real life a cruel and objectively evil business.

This reminded me of the SF/fantasy story "Yo Ho Hoka!" by Poul Anderson and Gordon Dickson, in Hoka! Hoka! Hoka! (reprinted from Earthman's Burden). The collection is a fun, light read. The Hoka are a sentient, deceptively cute, teddy-bear-like species who don't much care about the boundary between fact and fiction, and often come together to gleefully recreate whatever Earth fictional world excited their imagination. The stories revolve around the Hoka and the ambassador from Earth getting into and out of trouble -- in this case while recreating a pirate milieu, and by the end learning to do it without actual stealing or violence.

Avast me hearties! Today be "Talk Like a Pirate Day" lest ye be forgettin'. So swill a grog as a buxom beauty sits merrily on ye lap (or handsome laddie), ye dirty son of a bilge rat! May that scurvy, flea bitten cur of a mongrel ye love be the only companion that ye have in hell! So raise a flagon to the pirate in us all. May all your wenches have fire in their eyes, and a cutlass at hand.

Great posts! Really enjoy reading this string.

Ruth, thank you for your rant; you state it as I see it, loss of protection for workers, inability of workers to organize, loss of safety and environmental regulations, and if trends continue, loss of safety protection for women. I wonder what the environment and health care delivery will be like when/if this agreement goes through. This should be a wake-up call for all who work for wages.

Ian, I like your quote; it speak of reality.

Tony, Great performance by this young man. A Capella Science not only sounds good, it reads good as well! Music + science educates better than lectures or manuscripts. Do you refer to The International PARTICLE PHYSICS Masterclass session organized by Queen Mary, University of London?

Spud, I like you axe. Kind of reminds me of Pulaski Axe of 1910 Idaho fire fame.

Chris and Mindy, I agree, economizing is fun and a great hobby. So many ways we can get off the merchandise merry-go-round.
