Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

You might think that Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, would be stepping outside of her comfort zone in tackling the concept of patriotism.  As it turns out, not only does she have a proper handle on the term and its implications, she also…Continue

I'll be your best friend, Melinda.

Arpan, I don't have much to add, except Welcome! (Joan's right, we really are like a herd of cats... and a few of us literally resemble that remark!)

Mindy, how wonderful to hear that you made up with your oldest friend!

(Years ago I heard a sermon about the power of forgiveness, the real kind that people give each other. If you can forgive someone, it lets you take the relationship with them from that point forward, rather than having it be defined only by the past.)

Hi, Arpan.  Welcome to Atheist/Nexus and to our friendly group.  Diversity is wonderful.   As the saying goes.....variety is the spice of life.

Thanks Idaho Spud, Patricia and Joan Denoo. I'm glad to be a part of this place.

From your comments, I find this place extremely warm and friendly. If the whole human society was like this, the human civilization would be progressing at a much faster rate. Each of us would have been able to witness much more new stuff in our short human lives than we currently do.

Arpan, Exactly, we value DIVERSITY. We really are like a herd of cats, with no one able to the lead and everyone leading from their perspective. It really is a very stimulating place to participate.

This is also a place where you can express your ideas and get feedback from others who may or may not agree with your statement. We don't do the usual name calling and put-downs. The power of feedback is it gives you a reason to rethink an issue. You may continue to think as you do and you have a strong reason to back up your thinking.

There is no belief or faith here. There is thoughtful consideration of whatever topic in which you are interested.

Jump in, the water's fine, the participants are thoughtful and funny. I think you will enjoy sharing your thoughts.

Welcome Arpan. I can relate to the complication of Atheist Nexus.  It took me quite a while to find my way around.

Congrats, Mindy! It's often not possible tp patch up old friendships, but I'm glad you succeeded!

Comment by Arp on April 1, 2014 at 2:56am

Hello people, just wanted to say hi!

Actually, I find Atheist Nexus much more complicated than I thought initially with so many groups, blogs, and a vast number of members. It is such a diverse network. Reminds me of the diversity of life!

Here is a badly worded sentence that does not say what I intended to say.

" It seems proofreading fails to catch those mistakes when the material is old."

I meant to say, when I proofread something, I assume all the right words are in place and express my meaning. It is only later, when re-reading something I have written, I realize the wrong word or the wrong phrasing does not reveal my intention.
