Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

The day finally arrived.  Ken Ham's Ark Encounter opened on 7 July, 2016 ... to something a bit less than Disney-sized crowds, and more than a couple dissenting voices!  Seth Andrews has gathered a quartet of significant participants in the protest…Continue

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Chris G Jul 20. 15 Replies

America's Best Christian has finally acknowledged that there may be one outfit which has her belief system beat for it's leverage on the government.  No great surprise, it's the NRA and the gun industries.  Betty's a good loser, though.  She's made…Continue

We Are America / Love Has No Labels (John Cena - Ad Council)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Joan Denoo Jul 10. 3 Replies

It seems to be a repeating pattern: I wander around the internet and inevitably, I stumble onto all manner of stuff.  It happens all the time on YouTube, and as you doubtless have deduced, yours truly tripped over something a couple minutes ago,…Continue

Randall, I think you meant the 1971 Sylmar (or "San Fernando") quake that destroyed two hospitals, one was the newly-built Olive View County Hospital that was supposed to be earthquake-proof.  Some older, unreinforced masonry/brick buildings at the VA Hospital...many of the most severe injuries and fatalities were patients at the VA.

I live in Burbank...in 1972, the power was off for most of the day, but in the parts of the Valley that are really City of Los Angeles, people were without utilities for days, even weeks.

The 1994 Northridge quake was similar.  Both destroyed freeway overpasses that were supposed to be engineered to resist most quakes.

Both scared the Pea-turkey outta me...and my cats.  I have wished for years that I could afford to move to someplace boring.

It's the best plan! Hug a cat and sweet dreams, Mindy!

Wishing you all the very best!

Life is so funny, Booklover! Here I am, in the middle of the day, totally out of energy and looking at a mountain of work. I think I'll hide under a blanket untill it all goes away...

Anyone living in the Northridge area of LA, and old enough, will remember the 1972 (I think) earthquake that killed 67 (I think) and did considerable damage to freeways being built. I lived in Pomona 30 miles away and was shaken out of bed. I left So. Calif. the next year!

Joan, my sister told me that Freddie, the fat black cat, was on her bed, and slept through the entire event.

Useless blob.

Ian, safe journey, sounds like a visit. Hope all is well.

Glad you're all right, Felaine.

That cartoon took me a minute too, Mindy.

What an amazing writing desk!

Tomorrow I'll be off to England on a family visit. Looking forward to it.

Oh, I'm fine, but after living through 4 or 5 major quakes makes me jumpy whenever anything in the house rattles.  All it takes is a heavy truck driving up the street....
