Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

The following showed up in my YouTube feed this morning, and I decided to have a look.  Turns out, the New York Times has given us a reasonably even-handed look at a good friend of ours, being one Jerry DeWitt, former bible-thumper and now a pretty…Continue

How would you respond?

So, this morning, I was at my local coffee shop as I am most weekdays between bus runs. I do the editing on my husband's books so I had my laptop with me. My wallpaper is a picture I found online sometime back of a double helix with the word atheist…Continue

Have you ever been annoyed at those who complain about not mattering? Or that their problem is so huge that they are the only ones who suffer? But the ones that really gets me boiling are the ones who claim superiority over others or even animals.  Well, this series of photos shows how small we are ... and how large we are. Whether we like it or not, we matter and so do a lot of other things matter.

18 Photos you will question your existence.

Carl, I don't post on here all that often, but please understand I'm rooting for you. It's good to see you active here on A|N. Take care, my friend.

What to Think About:  Philosophy for a Thoughtful Younger Generation, by Chris Brockman is up on Amazon. Brockman uses his own definition of “philosophy” as a “systematic study of who I am, what’s out there, and what should I do about it,“to arrive at suggestions for things to think about.  Each chapter ends with scenarios and questions challenging the reader to think. This book is “written from a humanist perspective,” and may offend some religious sensibilities.  It is recommended for young adults.  Chris Brockman is the author of the classic of religious skepticism for children What about gods?

Carl, I am so happy to receive your news. Of course, you had a terrible shortness of breath. It really was inevitable. Now that you start dialysis and get some cleaner blood pumping through your veins you will be feeling better. And that does mean some resolution with your heart. The heart has to do the pumping. I don't know what role dialysis plays in getting your cleaner blood flowing, but I surely hope that issue is resolved very soon. Do take care of yourself ... I don't have to tell you that. I know your family is your greatest team and couple that with an excellent medical team, you have the possibility for renewed energy. I'm going change possibility to probability for renewed energy.
Here's a motherly hug and a big fat kiss on your cheek.

Just got released yesterday after spending three days in the hospital.  I went into the emergency room Wednesday evening with terrible shortness of breath.  I had fluid in my lungs and they ended up starting me on dialysis.  I've had two sessions of dialysis and I already feel better.  Starting Monday I start a regular three-time a week schedule.  Still waiting for an evaluation from the cardiologist about what to do regarding my heart issue.  I've been avoiding dialysis, but now, to be honest, I'm glad I'm doing it because I'm feeling better.

Life is what happens while you're doing something else, for some anyway. Nice one, Joan.
