Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Speak English? YOU FIRST! (Betty Bowers)

Honestly, the title to this piece is badly under-representative of the content.  To be far more accurate, what we have here is Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, going on a rant.  Before you say it ... Say WHAAAA?  Betty Bowers ranting? …Continue

10 Things About Patriotism (Betty Bowers)

It seems as though lately, Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, is evolving into America's Best Patriot.  She has recently been taking some fairly well-aimed shots at a certain Orange Nightmare and his sycophantic hangers-on, regarding the…Continue

A Prayer for Our Nation (Betty Bowers)

I'm going to keep this one short and sweet.  Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, has seen what is going on with the current occupant of the Oval Office, and my impression is that she is not at all happy with it.  True to her citizenship,…Continue

Really good news about your daughter, Mindy. Sounds like she is on her way! Happy for you, as well.

Very heavy rain and hail coming down how. Windy, wet, and cold. No gardening today, except inside.

Oh Loren, you are so patient. I have a really hard time reading fiction. I read how much you enjoy it and recognize it gives ideas in ways that don't come across in the professional literature. However, I read a page, paragraph, chapter, and it is just so much blah, blah, blah. I am half way through and I will finish because that is my style. I do appreciate everyone's encouragement to get out of my closet and open up to new and different ways to enjoying life.

I must say, This spring is especially welcome, even tough it is so crazy, unnatural. And we had that terrible landslide over on the coast with so many people still buried in the mud. The bodies come out, one by one. This morning they found the baby. The slide was compounded by recent earthquakes, very heavy rain, a deforested slope that has not grown back to hold the slope from caving.

The way I read all this, we have used the Earth as if it is a slave to be bent to our will, and Mother Nature just does her thing, caring not one iota whether we survive or not.

Thanks for the references, Joan.  As it happens, I've been intermittently rereading Double Star over the last month or so, and I'm maybe a third of the way into it.

While I think of it, have you finished Stranger and if so, what did you think of it?

Great news concerning your daughter, Melinda.  It's so important to do what you love.

Ian, welcome back home.  Sorry to hear about your family health issues.  The situation you describe must be very difficult for you.  I do have to say, at least you are balancing the tough times by treating yourself to the beauty of the Fine Arts.  Good for you!!

Mindy, that quartet of young ladies is outstanding.  They appear to be college age, I suspect.  They really nailed everything.  Not a bad note in the the whole performance and awesome energy.

Folks, I admit I am a Starbucks connoisseur.  I buy their beans (Kenya blend) to make here at home.  When traveling, I'll pass by Dunkin' Donuts and McDonald's (horrible coffee) to wait in line at Starbucks.  I drink my coffee black, and I like the rich, bold flavor.  I can't stand week coffee.

Good to hear your daughter is happier doing what she likes where she likes, and being closer to you.

Thanks Mindy, WOW!  the Girls Quartet is fantastic!  Watched them 4 times this morning and they bring tears to my eyes every time.

I love a cappella barbershop harmonizing, and these gals are right up there with the best I've heard.  The 60s songs are an added bonus.

I started watching them last evening, but was tired and quit a third of the way through.  My hearing is not the best.  I don't hear all the high notes anymore, and the ones I do hear quickly become grating on my nerves if they don't have enough low notes to go with them.  That was my main problem last night.  That echoing room emphasizes the high notes, and being tired, I couldn't take it.

Last night, I even thought I heard some bad notes, but not this morning.  They sound perfect now.
