Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

The Playboy Interview: Richard Dawkins

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Chris on Sunday. 14 Replies

I suppose it was the news that Playboy magazine was returning nudes to its pages after a year's hiatus that sufficiently perked my curiosity to check them out again.  I hadn't looked at Playboy since perhaps 2008, when I began to recognize that I…Continue

Hello Friends,I was ruminating a bit today on my sixty-some years existence. My mind went back to teenage years when I first figured out religion is not only obnoxiously loud, but also nothing I wanted anything to do with. Truly. I knew by age 15…Continue

degrading love — part two (TheraminTrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Joan Denoo Feb 11. 1 Reply

TheraminTrees set up religion with his left in Part One of his treatise on how religion demeans and degrades the value of love.  Here in Part Two, he brings in a devastating, "Mike Tyson" right, which negates and invalidates any claim that either…Continue

Grinning Cat, I love the cat video with the bell.  Thanks for posting.

That monopoly cat video was made by Parker Bros. as a promotion to advertise the fact that the cat game board piece is a new addition to the game.  It won in a popular vote.  I thought it was a cute video.

Mindy, I hate what your daughter experiences and feel for her. False accusations, especially when so blatantly placing blame on her with no evidence, would really get my goat! There comes a time when she will look for work someplace else. If she has been accused twice for no reason, she is entitled to an apology and has the right to issue an ultimatum. She doesn't benefit by people not showing her respect.
This situation is what I call the "Oh Well ... !" syndrome. Receive an insult or put-down or discount one time and just shrug it off with an "Oh Well!" and she receives another insult ... and says, "Oh Well!", pretty soon her life becomes "Oh well!".
I can't think of a better way to become depressed and self-loathing.
I know, she wants a job and to become independent. That is a noble goal. What price does she have to pay to keep that job? Is it worth it to her?
A first step might be to discuss her reaction with her supervisor or boss and set some ground rules. To be accused without evidence and to not be trusted and supported by her co-worker, is an insult, in and of itself. It is up to them to prove her guilt, not her to prove her innocence.

Grinning Cat, splendid training that cat gave his/her owner. I wonder how long it took? I trained rats during my undergraduate work and I must say, those rats had me as well trained as this cat!

Also from lovemeow:

Not quite Pavlov's bell: "Cat Trains Human to Feed On Command", using a bell to request treats.

re: Destructive Trees...Liquid Amber

They have very shallow roots, and if they are near a sidewalk or patio, they push the concrete up at the joins, and trip people.  Their seed pods are big and prickly, too.

My friend Sue had one planted in her parkway by the City of Los Angeles. (Parkways and sidewalks are City property). When it did become dangerous, and she wanted it removed, the City told her SHE had to pay for it!  Where is the logic in that?

She finally got fed up and did pay to have it cut down, and the root system dug up.  The City "very generously" put in a new level sidewalk.

A long time ago we had Catalina Cherry trees in the parkways in our neighborhood.  They were always messy; the "cherries" were inedible, mostly seed (about the size of the large marbles gamers use to "shoot" smaller marbles out of the circle), attracted wasps and other stinging insects.  Feh.  They finally developed big galls and started looking raggedy all over, so THIS city removed them, and gave us a choice of replacement trees or no trees.

I am SO glad I live in Beautiful Downtown Burbank, even if they finally did let Walphart open a store here this year. (We've been fighting that sleazy, money-grubbing outfit for ages.)
