Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

The day finally arrived.  Ken Ham's Ark Encounter opened on 7 July, 2016 ... to something a bit less than Disney-sized crowds, and more than a couple dissenting voices!  Seth Andrews has gathered a quartet of significant participants in the protest…Continue

America's Best Christian has finally acknowledged that there may be one outfit which has her belief system beat for it's leverage on the government.  No great surprise, it's the NRA and the gun industries.  Betty's a good loser, though.  She's made…Continue

Seth Andrews has been through the mill as it comes to dealing with those who insist that their faith in a deity is not just valid but necessary to their lives and to all lives.  Having dealt with that gauntlet and come out the other side an atheist,…Continue

We Are America / Love Has No Labels (John Cena - Ad Council)

It seems to be a repeating pattern: I wander around the internet and inevitably, I stumble onto all manner of stuff.  It happens all the time on YouTube, and as you doubtless have deduced, yours truly tripped over something a couple minutes ago,…Continue

Spud, your curmudgeonliness works for me.

sk8eycat, You describe a style of writing that brings personalities alive for you. Your sk8eycaticisms are priceless.

sk8eycat, yes academic writers write in a different language and unless exposed to it, I suppose it makes no sense. To me, it is my mother tongue ... sometimes ... it depends on who writes. I cannot make head or tail out of some, even as others seem to make sense out of the bunch of words piled together in sentences, paragraphs, chapters and books.

My son and I had a disagreement yesterday about Newton's Laws of Motion and inertia. I went to the encyclopedia and could not make any sense out of it. I was more frustrated then ever. So, I went to Newton's Laws for Kids and I had evidence I was correct in my definition. Oh! I can understand such concepts when put simply. I am not bragging, just saying.

Sk8eycat, how's Hairy Jerry doing?

Madison Avenue is always trying to pretty-up our language.  You notice that no one sells used cars anymore.  They are all pre-owned vehicles.  And all the employees at retail stores are all 'associates' even though everyone is underpaid, under-insured and under-respected by the heads of the corporations.

Oh, I love Dog and Friend.  The raccoon looks like a youngster...about half-grown.

I used to have some friends who had a pet raccoon...named TrashCan; every time we would get together they would have another hilarious tale about his behavior.  (They built an enormous enclosure for him...took up half the back yard...but they also would bring him in the house on a leash.  Until the night he ate one of their parrots.  LOL)

WTF indeed.

Spud, another word that has made my teeth itch ever since it was coined is "wellness."  The first time I saw it, I wondered "WTF is wrong with 'health'? Or 'healthy'?"  It's a simple word that everybody should be able to understand, so why invent a non-word that smells of Madison Ave. semi-cuteness?  It is now acceptable even in university publications, and it makes me want to scream.

Haha!  Sorry Rover, no way!

I'm another one that doesn't understand the meaning of the word meme, even though I've read Dawkins, Wikipedia, and several people on the net explain it.

I've just about given-up on trying to understand it.  As far as I can tell, it's not necessary for me to understand it, and I have much more enjoyable things to think about and do.

Maybe it's just part of my curmudgeonliness, but there are a number of new words that I don't see any reason to use or understand.  Most of them seem to have old words that describe what the new word does, sometimes even better.
