Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

It occurs to me that the regional differences that arise out what is loosely termed "the culture wars" isn't really to be found on a map. The reason that Texas and other places, particularly in the south, are so consistently contrarian may have its roots in unresolved issues dating back to the war between the states but it is opportunistically fueled today by only one festering, toxic institution---religion. It's as lethal as small pox and as potentially evil as Nazi work camps. Religion is a guaranteed right and there's no challenging that. But 'religion' often needs to be reined in by the people and the government when it "crosses the line" and begins suborns the Constitution. Unfortunately, 'religion' does this periodically and always will as long as it is with us.

Alyson, may I suggest praying to his noodliness by having a pasta dinner?

Ahh shucks!

Alysn may the FSM be with you in your search for a new place to land. I wonder if sending messages to the noodles does any good?  Probably not. I wish you well.

I am fully and completely a Texan - with all of the craziness, I love this land. It sort of becomes a part of your blood and skin.  The heat we love to complain about and the vastness is true beauty.

Thanks Chris and from some other things I have read, this too may lack accuracy.  It seems people like talking about praying and going to church far more then the doing.

@Alysn Ford - not sure what currently from Texas means.  We kinda think of ourselves as Texans and them others.  And we do culture our very own special brand of crazy.  Most particularly crazy right wing christians.

@ Kit,

You might be surprised how religiously devoted Americans are.

Here's a PEW Report showing how much Americans pray. The PEW Forum on Religion & Public Life is casually interesting.

Cool beans, PRG.  The headquarters of the Wiedemann Division of Warner & Swasey used to be there.  I know 'cuz I used to work for them back in the 80's.

Loren: hey I'm from close to King of Prussia. Locals call it Kinga Prussia.

I knew a guy who wrote a funny poem about going to PA and thinking people were talking dirty until he realized they were saying the names of towns...it was such a cute poem! Wish I had a copy of it!

Ahhh, Penn's Woods' quirky side ... with cities like Intercourse and Bird-In-Hand and King-of-Prussia!
