Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Tom Sarbeck Jun 6. 1 Reply

If you spend any time around YouTube and have any history of looking at atheist material (or even theist material!), you will inevitably run into: "XX Questions Atheists Can't Answer."  These are occasionally followed by: "XX Questions Atheists…Continue

worshipping narcissists (qualiasoup & theramintrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Idaho Spud Jun 3. 1 Reply

They're all around us: people who perceive the world as revolving around them and will go to considerable lengths to make it so: narcissists.  Such beings have been with humanity, I suspect, since humanity emerged from the gene pool.  Even worse,…Continue

appropriating morality (TheraminTrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Joan Denoo May 1. 7 Replies

We've all heard the claim: "Human morality comes from god."  And we've all seen for ourselves what Yahweh's "morality" looks like, from condemnations of homosexuality and the treatment of women as chattel to inexplicable sanctions against the eating…Continue

The following showed up in my YouTube feed this morning, and I decided to have a look.  Turns out, the New York Times has given us a reasonably even-handed look at a good friend of ours, being one Jerry DeWitt, former bible-thumper and now a pretty…Continue

How would you respond?

So, this morning, I was at my local coffee shop as I am most weekdays between bus runs. I do the editing on my husband's books so I had my laptop with me. My wallpaper is a picture I found online sometime back of a double helix with the word atheist…Continue

the people im stuck living with think these hurricanes are a sign of the end times. oh how it gets on my nerves when there is a earth quake and a storm right after each other. the irony is that the capitalist agenda of profit at all costs has damaged the planet and caused these events to happen... i wonder if deep down the capitalists want to full-fill prophecy and subconsciously have polluted the planet in order to get "raptured" up during their lifetime.

Ownership of the WTC site has been rather ambiguous for decades.  The memorial itself is owned by both the memorial foundation and the PA.  That's not really an issue, though.  The memorial exists as a museum to help people remember 9/11 as well as a memorial to honor the dead.  It doesn't exist to represent any nation or creed.  We must teach history, not hide it. (Our public schools hide enough history as it is.)  The cross was a part of the events after the disaster, and like it or not, represent that moment in time.  When my daughter is old enough to understand I'd like to take her there and explain why it's there and why it's a symbol of what fuels terrorism.  People do awful things using religion as justification.  Hiding religion's role in 9/11 is not a way to honor history and does injustice to the lives lost that day.  Tragedy is a perfect opportunity to teach.  Trying to be PC by representing all nations and religions just cheapens that opportunity.

Ground 0 is not private property.  It is owned by a corporation, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, that is government-owned.  It is government property.

last i looked, not very closely , true. but "ground 0" was private property. so, following our constitution, what ever they the owners decide to do with it is fine.  build a mosque, a church, or an atheistic community center. i dont really care.

i remember watching the second plane hit the building on TV and being appalled deeply appalled. i had eaten at the restaurant at the top of one of the buildings years before and i was simply appalled. but, to me symbols are not the real thing, and they are devisive. flags of all nations??  well im an american so do i have to honor the stars and stripes. for the people and by the people is enough fer me. actually id be happy if they just bulldozed the silly cross to build an access road. i will never feel included under any cross, crescent or whatever. the people are what we formed the government for.

More notably, Samuel Johnson said: "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel". The remark was said on the evening of April 7, 1775 in reference to some perceived show of ostentatious "false patriotism".

I quite agree with Rev. Watkins, both in the spirit and tactics of his observation about this benign issue.
