Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

AOC Flips the Religious Freedom Argument on Its Head (NowThis)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Loren Miller on Tuesday. 6 Replies

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may not be an atheist, but as it comes to the issue of State / Church separation, she has just surprised the daylights out of me (most pleasantly!) with a very powerful statement she has recently made regarding the behavior…Continue

Viruses Don't Watch FoxNews (Betty Bowers)

The above is the kind of headline which would likely send the Orange Nightmare into a royal hissy-fit ... but then, in addition to all the line-items outlined in the following video, viruses don't read, either!  Yes, I'm afraid that, once again,…Continue

Thanks for the invite to join.  My husband and I are pretty new to social networking via the computer.  We don't always have a good connection so our attendance here may be sporadic.  As I write this comment, I'm pretty sure most of you are sound asleep.

We live on our sailboat and are cruising around the world.  Right now we are in Fiji.  We are meeting all types of wonderful people, many of our cruising friends are non-theists. Here in Fiji, about 86% of the population are Christians, the rest Hindus and Muslims.

It's become quite an art, "feeling our way" to non-theistic friendships.  It's so much easier when you know you're on a similar wave length.  Thanks for the opportunity.

Let's see if I can do a (semi-) proper intro. I'm 53, a diasbled truck driver with an implanted defibrillator, on disability. Was first a jehovah's Witness as a child, then mainstream Protestant for several years. Been atheist over 20 years. Am on second wife (not at the moment) but third marriage, no kids except for Tucker the Wonder Dog. I work extremely hard at being lazy and am quite proud of my accomplishments in this field. Loathe all sports, would rather watch paint dry or grass grow. Used to call myself (and be) an evangelical gnostic atheist, but when I realized being a religious believer had nothing to do with intelligence level, or looking at evidence or choice, I gave up the evangelical part...especially since it conflicted with my lazy aspects.

Hi everyone!  I'm Pamela.  I'm vegan (yes, vegan atheist, imagine the tiny fraction of the population that is!)  I'm 40 years old, happily married and child-free by choice.  I've been atheist since my early twenties.  I became interested in fitness last year and enjoy lifting weights.  I'm also a health nut when it comes to nutrition.  I had to learn to cook when I became vegan three years ago and now I love it!  I have quite the vegan cookbook collection and like creating new dishes.

I spent 14 years in college and have way too many degrees.  But I am a cytotechnologist by trade.  I look at cells in a microscope looking for cancer.  It's like "Where's Waldo"....but with cancer cells!

OK here I am.
Comment by Patrick Moore on May 17, 2011 at 8:33am

I LOVE Greek yogurt!  Especially FAGE brand-and dripping in honey! (Or for that matter just about anything Greek dripping in honey! hehehe)

Oh-sorry!  I didn't mean to get sidetracked, but I am a bit of a foodie!  Allow me to introduce myself!  My name is Patrick Moore and I'm still fairly new to the Nexus-although I've already met quite a few interesting folks.  I'm divorced, have one child-a daughter (a red-headed one at that), named Abby, and I live in a town (Starke, Florida) where the general greeting is "Brutha (or Sista) have YOU found Jesus..." If this sounds familiar to you then you already know why I love being a part of the Nexus and why I'm so quick to pull up a chair at this table!

I love animals-and have met a number of my most cherished furry aquaintances starving and near death.  Once in my home, they just become a part of the family-and spoiled rotten ones at that!  Oh well, I do anything for my kids, be they two or four legged.  I hardly ever complain.  The love they all bring me makes it all worthwhile.

Well let's see, did I mention that I love food! Oh yes-I think I did.  And playing the fiddle (not very well yet but I'm learning). Oh and there is also discussions concerning math and science and critical thinking-and darn near anyhing else you want to bring up (unless it's a copy of the Watchtower-oh who am I kidding, I'll discuss that too-I'm a fool for conversation and I really don't think that there exists that many things that cannot be discussed intelligently-except maybe the fall t.v. line-up this year!)

Cordially yours,
