Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

degrading love — part two (TheraminTrees)

I'm old enough to fill in questionnaires about growing old. They asked me to do a collage and this is what I made:

While you guys are getting snow, we expect a high of 61°F tomorrow and 66°F Friday. Those roses are still OK. It was down to 28°F last night here in the burbs, but there they were. I think the south side of that building, facing a parking lot, is a micro-environment that saves up heat from the day.

Happy Turkey Day to all!

The honest political ad was cute.

Thanks for the Jimmy Cliff song, Joan. Bergen appreciated it. He's always liked the song. "Thank her for me", he says.

Joan, I love the Thanksgiving holiday. I celebrate it like I do with Christmas, with my own values, meaning, and interpretation. No, I don't use the day to celebrate and glorify the genocide that occurred on this continent. I make the day "my own" and celebrate and reflect upon what I personally am thankful for. Plus, I really enjoy the "traditional" meal which, incidentally, is nothing like the actual food served by the Indians and Pilgrims.

You can never go wrong with Carl Sagan. Great video!

Love the political ad, Bertold.

I hope you enjoy your low-key Thanksgiving, Randy. I don't blame you for not wanting to participate in a setting that makes you uncomfortable.

We need to reform the system, so that good candidates can get elected without spending big money (and large donors expecting access and favors).

Anyone know what public financing programs currently exist and how they're doing? It looks like there are a few state-level programs:

"In the clean elections programs offered only in Arizona, Connecticut, Maine, candidates are encouraged to collect small contributions... As an example... a candidate for state office in Arizona must raise $5 contributions from at least 200 people in order to qualify... In return, the state provides the candidate with public money in an amount equal to the expenditure limit....

The other type of public financing program, offered in states such as Florida and Hawaii, provide matching funds for candidates up to a certain amount." (Candidates who participate must abide by various contribution and spending limits.)

(info from National Conference of State Legislatures)

Maybe time to move this to a topic in Politics, Economics, and Religion?...

Great add Bertold. Rather than having politicians watch it, I would suggest thousands upon thousands of voters. Maybe then they would get their head out of their ass and realizing the con job they are being sold.

I can think of a few politicians who could stand to see that commercial, Bertold ... a few thousand!

Joan, thanks for sharing that powerful video!

That's a truly honest political ad! “I’m Honest Gil Fulbright, and I approve of whatever my marketing team has put into this message.”

(It's worth watching to the very end.)
