Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

It's amazing what you discover when you go looking for something you had no idea you'd find.  On an impulse, I pulled up Eric Whitacre's website to see if he had created any new pieces.  It would seem that he has: a song cycle called The City and…Continue

Something Beautiful – Nathan Phelps & Seth Andrews

And it is beautiful, too, indeed, I think some of Seth Andrews' best work.  Interesting point: rather than Seth's dulcet baritone doing the narration, this piece presses Nathan Phelps' deep bass intonation into service, bringing a different flavor…Continue

Good timing on that post, Loren.  Chicago is under a winter storm watch for tomorrow.  Thundersnow with thunder and lightning has also been predicted.  I remember the first time experiencing that as a kid.  It's quite bizarre to hear and see lightning flashes during a blizzard.  Concrete details of tomorrow's expected storm are quite evasive.  Anywhere from 2 to 7 inches of snow, if any.

BTW, I'm a huge Herb Alpert/Tijuana Brass fan.

Not certain whether I've posted this before or not, but still ... 'tis the season!

Felaine, I'm very glad to hear about your good fortune. As to lentils and split peas, I'll go with the lentils. While I am a meat eater, I don't use it in lentil soup. Carrots and onions are good for me. I'll have to think about cinnamon and allspice as to my blood glucose. Might be a good idea.

You can add me as a split-pea soup lover as well.  Yum.

Sk8eycat, you better not give us your address.  You might end up with a long line of us outside your front door.  Although.......that would be fun if we all brought something to eat.  Potluck at Elaine's house!!!!!

Patricia, bay leaf is another ingredient I can live without, but I certainly have turmeric, curry powder (????) and cayenne.  There was also a bag of lentils in with all the soup ingredients, plus a small bag of Ghirardelli chocolates, 2 pears that need to soften up a bit....a LARGE bag of navel oranges  I have a bag and a half of cranberries in the freezer....and I always buy the largest bottle of cinnamon available, at least twice a year.   (I wonder if my overuse of cinnamon and allspice in practically EVERYTHING has anything to do with my blood glucose normalizing itself.)

Split pea soup is one of my favorites.  I add things to it for variety, but most times, I just use butter, pepper & salt.  Very economical that way.

Just thyme, salt, pepper, onion, carrots....peas....ham, ham broth....and maybe a sprinkle of hot red pepper flakes at the table.  Oh!  And BUTTER!  I can't cook without butter.
