Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Degrees of Doubt: The Claims and Credentials of Ravi Zacharias (The Thinking Atheist)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Chris May 17. 1 Reply

Anyone here ever run onto an apologist by the name of Ravi Zacharias?  I've seen his name dropped multiple times on YouTube as supposedly being THE ONE APOLOGIST that no atheist wants to cross swords with, because of his facility with christian…Continue

The Most Hated Woman in America (The Thinking Atheist)

Before Aron Ra and Matt Dillahunty, before Dawkins or Dennett or Harris or even Hitchens, there was Madalyn Murray O'Hair.  In the midst of an America where Christianity was being flaunted as a defense against the godless communists of the Soviet…Continue

attacking ideas (TheraminTrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Grinning Cat Apr 4. 1 Reply

Attacking ideas is a considerable portion of what we as atheists do.  Why attack ideas?  Ideas earn attack when they don't serve people, not just us but those who adopt said ideas, mistakenly thinking that they have value when they don't.  Our…Continue

bending truth, or "We Can All Be Manipulated" (TheraminTrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Grinning Cat Apr 4. 40 Replies

The following is one of TheraminTrees' most thorough-going pieces, wherein he looks at the process and techniques whereby a "religious" organization (which will sound VERY familiar to most of us, once introductions are made!) takes a person who…Continue

The Playboy Interview: Richard Dawkins

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Loren Miller Mar 28. 16 Replies

I suppose it was the news that Playboy magazine was returning nudes to its pages after a year's hiatus that sufficiently perked my curiosity to check them out again.  I hadn't looked at Playboy since perhaps 2008, when I began to recognize that I…Continue

I refused to pay for a new satellite box for the TV. They wanted forty five dollars to replace it. I told them they could either send a new one or l would change providers. It made no difference to me. After they agreed to waive the charge on the box they told me it would cost twenty dollars shipping. I said'again, I'm not paying you a nickel. Send it or don't'. They sent it :)

Way to go, Spud. Sometimes, one just has to take a stand.

I'm supposed to pay a $25 "rental fee" for my propane tank, but refuse. I tell them I'm going to switch providers, and they then relent. Happens every year.

Spud! I loved those old songs:

Mairzy Doats.

My kids loved them too.

Spud, I like Pat's suggestions to tell the bank to stop paying to that company, and contact the Rip Off Report. I would go one step further and name the company that did not follow your instructions, write your story for the various social media to which you belong. We need to complain, loudly, often, and everywhere. I am not saying being noisy about your complaint will make a difference, but it seems to me to be better than remaining silent.

Spud, you know me, the "DO NOT REMAIN SILENT! person.

 Rip Off Report.

Hex 5 remark about questioning god was dead on. Our family is taught that is something you don't do. It's the way to hell for certain. And Loren's reply that we're not better. But we are open to new ideas was also dead on.

Loren/Hex5/All. Hello. I'm days late as usual to a conversation.

Monday's talk about relating to theist; l only found out recently that my oldest niece and her husband have stopped going to church and she was asking me questions about why I'm an atheist!
I was shocked. Thanks to whoever posted the link to Kissing Hanks Ass. I sent it to her and she enjoyed it. So did her husband.
Out of dozens of neices and nephews, Sisters, brother, brothers-in-law, aunts uncles,.... The entire family, no one, has ever genuinely asked anything.
I'm still surprised and continue to text her articles that are both well thought out and don't appear to harsh on the believers ideas.
Thanks all.
And it's hot and dry here.

Thanks, Pat, good to know!

Bertold, there is such a website. It's the Rip Off Report.

Spud, contact your bank and have them put a stop payment on any withdrawals to that company. Notify the bank and future withdrawals by that internet provider are unauthorized. Or, just change accounts and get a new account number. The company will only have your old number and it won't work.

Spud, I'm feeling your frustration. I hate companies that are arrogant enough to think they can treat their customers like shit. Sometimes it's just a single idiot in the system, but in your case it sounds like it's the company culture.  I'm trying to get estimates to replace my rotting deck, and yesterday two out of three contractors scheduled to do an estimate didn't bother to show up or call.

Someone ought to start an "I call bullshit" Website to shame companies into some kind of minimum level of decent customer service.
