Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Bible Belt Atheist (New York Times)

Started by Loren Miller on Thursday. 0 Replies

The following showed up in my YouTube feed this morning, and I decided to have a look.  Turns out, the New York Times has given us a reasonably even-handed look at a good friend of ours, being one Jerry DeWitt, former bible-thumper and now a pretty…Continue

How would you respond?

So, this morning, I was at my local coffee shop as I am most weekdays between bus runs. I do the editing on my husband's books so I had my laptop with me. My wallpaper is a picture I found online sometime back of a double helix with the word atheist…Continue

The Fake Christian Busybody Show (Andrew Bradley)

It seems as though there was a Gay Pride parade in some town somewhere and a Christian commentator, herein known as The Activist Mommy, apparently got her panties so in a bunch about it that she had to fire up her video camera and record a…Continue

how dogma pollutes discourse (qualiasoup & theramintrees)

"The Lord is our God; the Lord is One." "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father, but by Me." "There is no god but Allah, and Mohamed is his prophet." Assertions, taught as fact, but without any form of corroborative…Continue

"Atheists in many foxholes served"...

Let's also work towards a society that's free and thriving and where, while we recognize our appetite for aggression, war is not an "acceptable" "last resort", and "soldiers" and "armies" are simply not conceivable as things civilized people do.

Qiana, I like your Dark ages encounter, and Atheists are everywhere.  Saving both.

Qiana, thanks for sharing those perfect edits of the Ark Encounter billboards, from Friendly Atheist!

Joan and K.H., Dan Rather excoriated Trump on Facebook for his "Second Amendment" threat, "a new low and unprecedented": "The rhetoric is the candidate. This cannot be treated as just another outrageous moment in the campaign."

There are also quite a few comments over in "Atheist Reasoning on Gun Control" worth reading.

Reposting from there, Democratic Underground pointed out:

So Apparently The Party Of Lincoln Is Now The Party Of John Wilkes Booth [picture of Donald Trump giving a speech] “If [Hillary Clinton] gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I dunno.” -- Donald Trump, 8/9/16

Is it not a crime to threaten or even talk about shooting someone? I perceive it as an assault.

"Mr. Trump warned at a rally here that it would be “a horrible day” if Mrs. Clinton were elected and got to appoint a tiebreaking Supreme Court justice.

“If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks,” Mr. Trump said, as the crowd began to boo. He quickly added: “Although the Second Amendment people — maybe there is, I don’t know.”

This surely sounds like a threat of violence to me.

I just sent a second message to Pat asking him if he is OK and that we miss his comments. No reply.
