Hang With Friends

Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Let's not define ourselves or others by our worst behaviors

My take on the recent melt down at Hang With Friends, of which I missed part, is that some of us were tripped up by a habit of thought. It's something we learn growing up, and use without realizing how much pain it can generate -  failing to…Continue

As to valentines day ... I agree wholeheartedly! How else will candy makers and flower growers make a living if it were not for weddings, funerals, and celebrations such as valentines day.

On the other hand, I love mileposts in my life. Simple things like the day I plant cabbage seeds knowing they will be sauerkraut in a crock to be opened on Dec. 21 or 22, whichever is the winter solstice.

We celebrate all four season changes as well as the cross days.

Solar Wheel of the Year in the Northern Hemisphere:

December 21-22 Winter Solstice Shortest day of the year

February 5 Cross-Quarter Day Halfway between

March 19-21 Spring Equinox Equal day and night

May 5 Cross-Quarter Day Halfway between

June 20-22  Summer Solstice Longest day of the year

August 7 Cross-Quarter Day Halfway between

September 21-24  Autumn Equinox Equal day and night

November 7 Cross-Quarter Day Halfway between

These have nothing to do with pre-historic traditions or religious customs, and yet all the major early and recent holidays follow very closely to these dates. They are the ways time is tracked from :

Solstice, Equinox. and Cross-Quarter Days

Loren, your wife is a jewel! What a wonderful gift! What all does that timepiece do? I don't suppose they manufacture such a timepiece that is affordable? Well, I love things that measure. And I guess you do too.

Give your wife a big hug from me and tell her I think she is a most caring woman I know ...  partly because you love her so much, she must be a very special.

I've never celebrated valentines day either.

Diamonds is one of my pet peeves.  The companies that control them only let a few on the market at a time to keep the price high.  At least they did in the past.  Don't know about today.

Plus, I just don't see the attraction.  I find colored glass "gems" far more beautiful.

A nice gift Loren!!

Do you all celebrate Valentine's day? I never did - I felt that it was a florists' trick to boost sales. To be honest, I think that of all feasts and celebrations.
