Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

The Playboy Interview: Richard Dawkins

I suppose it was the news that Playboy magazine was returning nudes to its pages after a year's hiatus that sufficiently perked my curiosity to check them out again.  I hadn't looked at Playboy since perhaps 2008, when I began to recognize that I…Continue

Hello Friends,I was ruminating a bit today on my sixty-some years existence. My mind went back to teenage years when I first figured out religion is not only obnoxiously loud, but also nothing I wanted anything to do with. Truly. I knew by age 15…Continue

degrading love — part two (TheraminTrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Joan Denoo Feb 11. 1 Reply

TheraminTrees set up religion with his left in Part One of his treatise on how religion demeans and degrades the value of love.  Here in Part Two, he brings in a devastating, "Mike Tyson" right, which negates and invalidates any claim that either…Continue

It has been 6 month now since I signed up for Atheist Nexus membership. The past year has been sort of a bi-polar wave of emotions for me. I hope I wasn't offensive to the folks on here and I think I have been but I don't know to who. My desire…Continue

Carl, allow me to join in on wishing you well and hoping for the best. And, if someone knows how to get something started here on A|N, put a marker down for me. This is one of those times my bookie and bartender can go to the back of the line.

Perfect, Mindy. People need to realize that "moderate Christian" and "moderate Muslim" are oxymorons.

Three cheers for Carl!! You're a strong person and will handle whatever they throw your way. As for the cost (and stress/worry), I can't imagine "they" would say "no go". There has to be some negotiations you can afford. If not, count me in for some financial help. Good luck. Keep us informed.

What an ordeal.  Hoping the best for you Carl, and I can spare a few dollars to help.

Good to hear from you Carl, but you have a lot to go through!

Glad to hear from you, Carl. You have a lot on your plate but you are up to it, I'm sure. We'll be the best support we can be.

Carl, I just wanna give you the biggest, warmest HUG ever!

My computer tech/friend has been on dialysis for 5 years because he doesn't want to go through all that transplant and the aftermath  stuff.....but it's rough on him.  And I worry....not just because he's a good tech....he's a neat person.  And so are you.

There are several fund-raising web sites....most of them charge a percentage of the money raised.  Do a Google search.

Agh! Carl, kidney surgery sounds way too complicated. I wish you luck.

Carl, So glad to read your post and understand the stressors that you face. A lot to absorb, as C.S.A.W.S. noted.

First of all, a money raiser for you here on A/N, if that is allowed.  I have no idea how to start one. Is anyone familiar with this aspect? I can follow directions and work with anyone who can take the lead. Are there any rules or guidelines for doing such a thing?

Will your sisters be donors?

Yes, you are strong, both physically and mentally and can take on whatever challenge that confronts you. Your medical team, family team, and A/N team stand with you as you progress through this

Knowing you are busy, I will be patient in receiving news about your progress. Well, no, that isn't true. But never mind, I will look forward to whatever time you have to share with us.

Do take care, dear friend,

Hi, gang.  It's been a busy, stressful and overwhelming few days.  I had a six-hour long orientation on Friday about everything related to kidney transplant surgery.  I listened to a long medical talk with all the details, had two physical examinations by two doctors, had at least a dozen vials of blood drawn, and met with both a dietician and a social worker.  Whew!

Basically I'm ready both physically and mentally to go ahead with the surgery but with one exception.  I need to show that I have at least three or four months financial reserve available after the surgery that will not only pay my usual housing and living expenses but also to make sure my expensive insurance premium is kept up to date.  After the surgery I will be on about fifteen different medications and will require 24-hour care for the first two weeks alone.  The success of the transplant requires a lot of medical aftercare, and that cannot happen without insurance to pay for it.

Today I had two doctors appointments.  I need to have two other surgeries before I can go ahead with the kidney transplant.  One is minor and will take place next week.  The second needs to be scheduled as soon as possible so I can heal.  In the meantime I need to raise money for my upcoming financial expenses.

A stressful time for me?  Yeah, it sure is.  But I'm doing well.  My long-time regular doctor complimented me today on how calmly I'm talking all this.  He said I'm stronger than he thought!  lol

Thanks again to all of you for your kind thoughts and expressions.  It really means a lot to me.
