Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

The Ark Encounter: A Less than Grand Opening (The Thinking Atheist)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Grinning Cat on Monday. 24 Replies

The day finally arrived.  Ken Ham's Ark Encounter opened on 7 July, 2016 ... to something a bit less than Disney-sized crowds, and more than a couple dissenting voices!  Seth Andrews has gathered a quartet of significant participants in the protest…Continue

Wedding Haka - Subtitled & translated

Started by Joan Denoo Aug 13. 0 Replies

I ran across a video of a wedding in which a group of wedding guests celebrated with a performance of a traditional Māori ancestral war dance, called a Haka. It was intended for sons, however, the women have joined in a participation of…Continue

Onward (Unpaid) Christian Soldiers (Betty Bowers)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Chris G Aug 13. 1 Reply

Proselytizing in the military is a dirty little secret most radical christians would rather didn't get out.  Well, never let it be said that America's Best Christian, Betty Bowers, was ever a wallflower where a pit bull was needed!  In the following…Continue

grooming minds (TheraminTrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Joan Denoo Aug 10. 20 Replies

There are likely very few among those who frequent Atheist Nexus who would argue against the idea that indoctrinating children with religion is at minimum less than moral or ethical and more likely considered child abuse. Personally, I have aligned…Continue

The Bourne Again Identity (Mr. Deity)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Qiana-Maieev Aug 2. 2 Replies

There's a young man, unconscious, found tangled with the bushes which describe the edge of your property, late one evening.  Who is he?  Where did he come from?  These are the questions which confound Ward and Pam as they attempt to deal with a most…Continue

Patricia, I think a lot of us were touched by your challenge and impressed with your management of a personal and private pain in face of unknown events. A hat-tip to you!

Felaine, love your cuppa tea, a book and a warm kitteh!

Ruth, your situation sounds so frustrating, maybe a good temper tantrum is in order. Is this the future we look toward? Outrageous!

Sk8eycat, next you'll be asking Pumpkin to read to you!  lol

Joan, I LOVE pickled beets (or beats...heh!)!  I made oatmeal cookies with walnuts Wednesday,  but they aren't as good as the ones we get from the Safeway/Von's bakery.  How humiliating.

Sometimes ranting is fun, bu tI do think I'm going to go curl up with a cuppa tea, a book, and a warm kitteh for a while.  Just wish I could teach Pumpkin to turn the pages for me...but all he wants to do is roll over so I can pet his tummy.

Speaking of intake and output, I made a batch of pickled beets yesterday. Red in/red out!

Oh! my goodness! Problems go unsolved, Conflicts escalate! Inefficient and ineffective social services abound!

What is one to do?

Curl up under the covers and peek out only to go potty and pour something in to be excreted?

Pretend everything is good?

Deny any problems or conflicts exist?

Sit down, breath deeply, enjoy the breath, recognize life continues to exist even as challenges reign?

Join with others who experience the same problems and conflicts?

Find people with different but similar challenges?

Write a book? Poem? Song?

Look realistically at what one has, what one needs, how to get basic needs met?

Cry? Whine? Complain? Blame? Accuse?

Confront? Take a stand? Insist on being heard?

Refuse to be trivialized, discounted, demonized?

Given what is real, how do I, as an individual, find joy, peace, community, meaning, purpose?

I don't know?

Mindy, I've been a member of the Church of the Innersprings for decades.  Love it!  Now, if I could just teach the cats to bring me breakfast in bed (but NOT kibble!  I want waffles with fresh strawberries, and hot tea!  Perhaps some chai...)

Beautiful picture, Randall, thanks. And get better soon, FA!
