Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

appropriating morality (TheraminTrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Joan Denoo May 1. 7 Replies

We've all heard the claim: "Human morality comes from god."  And we've all seen for ourselves what Yahweh's "morality" looks like, from condemnations of homosexuality and the treatment of women as chattel to inexplicable sanctions against the eating…Continue

The following showed up in my YouTube feed this morning, and I decided to have a look.  Turns out, the New York Times has given us a reasonably even-handed look at a good friend of ours, being one Jerry DeWitt, former bible-thumper and now a pretty…Continue

How would you respond?

So, this morning, I was at my local coffee shop as I am most weekdays between bus runs. I do the editing on my husband's books so I had my laptop with me. My wallpaper is a picture I found online sometime back of a double helix with the word atheist…Continue

The Fake Christian Busybody Show (Andrew Bradley)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Plinius Apr 9. 1 Reply

It seems as though there was a Gay Pride parade in some town somewhere and a Christian commentator, herein known as The Activist Mommy, apparently got her panties so in a bunch about it that she had to fire up her video camera and record a…Continue

Homosexuals are to blame! (bögarnas fel - english translation)

Comment by The Flying Atheist on June 22, 2015 at 9:55pm

You can't blame straight couples.  Straight people don't make gay babies.  Homosexuality is a choice.  At least that's what the right-wing response would be to that notion.  "The gay" is caused by the influence of demonic forces, or by not having enough Jesus in your life, or by the relentless recruitment tactics of other homos who are fulfilling the tenets of their Big Gay Master Plan for World Domination.

Hello! I've missed being here. Life, work...dating. Good things, but I miss this site...hope that you are all doing okay these days. :)

That "Blame straight couples...." makes so much sense it baffles me that the bigots don't GET it....  It's been driving me crazy for decades.

And whenever some really insane hater starts talking about killing or internment camps (Lyndon LaRouche was campaigning for those when some of my friends were dying of AIDS in the 1980s), it makes me so effing mad that I want to hit them with a baseball bat.....and I don't have one.  =8 > (

Randy and Joan, I think Control-click on a Mac is like right-click on a Windows computer. (Right-click is how I get those dropdown menus.)

Gerald, too many of the right-wing religious nutjobs would think that song is totally serious!
(BTW, I also like the sign, "Against gay marriage? Blame straight people: they're the ones having gay babies.")

And Felaine, thanks for the "Fins" music video!

That video captures it smack on GC. It should be broadcast on the religious channels.

A bit from the parody song "Bögarnas fel":

In the name of religion we engage in wars, kill and fight / But we bear no responsibility for this...Another translation: "On religious grounds we still fight and kill and maim / but we are good and innocent and not the ones to blame."

(The song continues with its title theme, "it's the gays' fault!" Youtube -- Swedish with English closed captions; Another performance, with the second translation I quoted)

Only joking GC.
