Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

I received a gift this morning from a virtual friend, Pamela Smith:A Powerful Message from an old wise teacher :" One day an old wise teacher was walking through a village. A very angry and rude young man came up and began insulting him. "You have…Continue

10 Tricks from 46 (Betty Bowers)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Ruth Anthony-Gardner Nov 6, 2017. 3 Replies

Apparently, Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, has been slumming.  That is to say, she's been talking to Mike Pence [gasp!].  It would seem as though Mike has offered some of his not-so-personal tricks of the trade on how to be a 21st century…Continue

Speak English? YOU FIRST! (Betty Bowers)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Donald R Barbera Sep 27, 2017. 5 Replies

Honestly, the title to this piece is badly under-representative of the content.  To be far more accurate, what we have here is Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, going on a rant.  Before you say it ... Say WHAAAA?  Betty Bowers ranting? …Continue

10 Things About Patriotism (Betty Bowers)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Plinius Sep 26, 2017. 2 Replies

It seems as though lately, Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, is evolving into America's Best Patriot.  She has recently been taking some fairly well-aimed shots at a certain Orange Nightmare and his sycophantic hangers-on, regarding the…Continue

In hindsight we're all wise, Joan! Don't feel guilty, you probably did the best you could think of with the info you had at that time. No reason to blame yourself!

I feel the same, Mindy - can't they thank the people who helped them?

I hope you get better soon, Carl, the flu is NOT what you need!

What I got for xmas is a visit from brother-in-law - let's forget it a.s.a.p! The stupid oaf did nothing but complain and talk about himself. I think he only misses us when we no longer do things for him. People like that drain my energy and give nothing in return. I keep on helping him - because my husband feels responsible for his brother.

Next week I'll be back in the classroom - YIPPEE!

Randy, you asked about my health. I am fully recovered from all the cancer treatments and my life returns to normal. I sleep a lot, and don't have a lot of interest in doing anything bur reading or reading A/N mail. I feel incredibly content and happy to be alive. Thanks for asking.

The week with my daughter was exhausting! I don't know how she does all that she accomplishes. She has her own business, takes a lot of time to be with her two daughters and their families, volunteers for the Fire District, and spends time with me. We have great fun together. My life goes very well. I'm still working on shaking the guilt of not getting out of a bad marriage and getting the kids out earlier .. but that is just wallowing in old stuff that does no one any good. I don't know what I am going to have to do to shake that guilt.

Carl, boy! it takes some creative imagination to find the "good" in this event. Flu, especially now, for you, has no positive aspect. Bummer!

One of the advantages of being a "loner."  I haven't had a flu shot in 10+ years, and haven't  had even a sniffle in all that time, either.

Well, my nose tends to drip when the weather gets below 50deg, but there's no infection.  (Just gross.)

I think that the older you get, and if you manage to stay relatively healthy, you immune system becomes more efficient.  Mom used to drag me to the doctor when I was in elementary school for a gamma globulin shot whenever there was a run of measles in the school (no vaccines then), so I was 20 years old and in Miami Beach when I broke out with roseola.  Cost me 6 days pay.  I've never had rubella measles.  Had chicken pox and mumps when I was 6 or 7....NOT fun.  And the chicken pox returned as shingles when I was 21 or 22.  Gaaaahhhhh!

But I have not had influenza or anything like that since I retired.

*knocks wood*

What I got for Xmas:  the flu.  I had my flu shot back in the Fall, so hopefully this won't last too long or be too severe.  Several members of my family are also afflicted.  The price you pay for family unity during the holiday season.  Ugh!

WOW! Wonderful, Joan. Good food, good times (had by all, as they say).
