Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

degrading love — part one (TheraminTrees)

Love is by many considered among the highest of positive emotions.  Yet when love of the type offered by deities is examined, something seems to go seriously wrong.  The love of Yahweh seems less a gift than a demand, not so much beneficence as a…Continue

Thanks for the link Flying Atheist - love cats.

Your daughter sounds very unique Booklover - very independent thinking.

How is everyone?

Yes, cats are grand, aren't they.

For all you cat lovers (I think there may be one or two of you here) I wanted to post this link from "Daily Kos" I Think My Cat is a Republican.  It's pretty funny.  Also, if you scroll through the comments section there are lots of cute pictures.

You won't believe me, I don't read the main stream news. I just read satire news websites (for the most part). I like humour. I LOVE humour.

Laughing is the best thing you can do in this world full of sorrow.

Comment by Idaho Spud on April 5, 2014 at 11:55am

I think laughter is very good for us.  For one thing, it helps us face the challenges of life and overcome anger and depression.  It's the reason I watch my favorite comedy movies once a year, as well as the few comedies on TV I can find.

I wish I were like Mindy and could laugh a lot.  I can if I'm with the right people, but those people are few and far between.

Good one Loren.  That's a keeper.

I agree with everyone else Joan.  Your daughter was amazing as well as you.  What a story!

So glad that you were able to escape the horrible abuse and help other women as well.

Comment by Joan Denoo on April 5, 2014 at 11:44am

Please do remember, my story is not a pitty-potty story. It is all fact and that is the point of my telling it. Hundreds of women - and men - attended my classes and pulled themselves out of their viral lives.

Oh NO! I just reread my comment Between Grinning Cat and Arp,

I misspoke. I did not write what I meant.  I wrote,

"The conversations that occur on Atheist Nexus are very different than on Facebook and Twitter. The real food for thought comes on these sites. This is where I come for nourishment and for a safe place to rant."

I should have written:

The conversations that occur on Atheist Nexus are very different than on Facebook and Twitter. The real food for thought comes here on Atheist Nexus sites. This is where I come for nourishment and for a safe place to rant.

Admittedly, I've led a very sheltered life. Reading I Fired God,  Joan's story, plus some recent television "exposes", I realize that there's a different world beyond my insolated walls--savage, brutal, sickening. My rose colored glasses have really fogged up recently. Thanks to all that are doing something about the ugliness of our society.
